During the first 14 Days of Atkins, we can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight we need to lose. So a person with 10 pounds to lose can expect to lose 1/2-1 pound. A person with 100 pounds to lose can expect to lose 5-10 pounds.
I unofficially lost 8 lbs (didn't weigh in on the same scale I origianlly used)....I was disappointed as well hearing how some people were losing like 15 lbs...
Oh well...I didn't gain it in a week....I am not going to lose it in one either I guess.
Where did you get that figure of 10%? It doesn't quite make sense to me, if someone needs to lose 200 pounds they can expect to lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks? Is it cause of the stored water weight in that amount of glycogen that a body that size can contain?
I was always under the impression that most of the weight you lose in induction is from no longer being partially dehydrated and seeing your body start to flush fluids that it's storing. I think the body only really wants to lose like 1-4 pounds a week so even if you were doing induction perfectly and didn't lose, just take that as comfort that before you were probably treating your body well in terms of drinking enough water.

I had to lose like 140 or so pounds and I lost 12 in my first 2 weeks so it greatly varies between people and their bodies. How I look at it it doesn't matter what you lose it's if ya keep it off. If you lost 6 in your first 2 weeks do you know how many pounds of butter that is go to the store and grab 6 pounds of butter and feel pretty darn happy you got that off your body.

On any weight loss program, the first weight lose is water weight. Atkins is a particularly effective diuretic, so the water weight tends to come off fast on my program. But be assured that after four to five days, the pounds that come off are primarily fat.
If you look at "Weight Loss During the First Two Weeks on a Fat Burning Program for Patients at Three Levels of Obesity" table in Chapter 12, it gives you an an idea of the weight loss "averages" are. If you calculate the percentages, it comes to roughly 5-10% losses for the various degrees of metabolic resistance.
CoachW44, that isn't a "rule" but an estimation of what most of us can expect to lose. Of course, there are other factors involved: age, sex, underlying medical conditions, etc. But that 5-10% is an estimate. Dr. Atkins does say that the average male can lose about 10 pounds and the average female about 6 pounds. But that "average" implies 'average degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss', not a person who is of 'average' age, 'average' height, and does an 'average' amount of exercise.
