  • How much did you lose the first week?

    Hi,

I'm just beginning and I'm curious as to how much people have lost in their first week? Does it taper off after that? Get more consistent?

    Thanks!

Hi and welcome to ADBB ha

There is no correct answer to your question. The amount of weight a person loses depends on so many factors -- how much weight you have to lose, your metabolism, the amount of exercise you do, how much water you drink, and on and on.

A person with 100 lbs to lose is going to lose far more than a person with 10 lbs to lose. A person under a great deal of stress may not lose as much as a person in a more relaxed environment. It really, really varies.

The best thing to do is just read the book, follow what it says, and let us know what YOU lose your first week Whatever it is, if you've followed the book to the letter, is exactly right for you.

the first week i lost about 5 lbs, the second week around 4. Since then its been quite a bit slower maybe 2 lbs a week. the first two weeks i did induction by the book, since i've remained at around 20 carbs a day but sometimes have foods that aren't on the induction list like nuts or berries or even an occasional atkins bar or shake but keeping the carbs at around 20 grams/day. i think the reason you lose so fast those first couple weeks is because you are also ridding your body of a lot of excess water weight. it definately slows down a bit after that.

I didn't weigh myself until I had completed the two weeks of initial induction, and I was very happy to find I'd lost ten pounds! I lost ten more the next three weeks. I lost ten more over the next five. So, thirty pounds in ten weeks!

Results vary based on exercise, strictness in carb intake, water retention, personal metabolism and how much one has to lose. But from what I've seen, 10 lbs is pretty much the average, but with all averages, some lose more and some lose less. I'd just advise not to judge the diet until after two whole weeks of cheat-free induction, and then (as Dr Atkins says), make your evaluation.

        Have a Happy Induction!

I found that the amount I lost varied with how closely I was following the Atkins plan. The first month on Atkins I lost 35 pounds. The second and thid months, I lost very little comparatively due to not following plan closely enough. Month four and I'm back burning brightly with a 19.5 pound loss again. Last week alone I lost 6 pounds.

Buy the 2002 DANDR, follow the plan and exercise. Be accountable to yourself and others here. It's all a part of the plan.

            You'll make it!

Everyones bodies work differently. I lost 11# my first week and 5# the second. I am a sloooooow loser now. I do every thing by the book. Most importantly get some exercise, and drink the WATER!!!!!! Lots of H2O!

I work with a guy that turned me on to ATKINS. He lost his weight very quickly. 80# in 6 months. He is a guy they tend to loose faster, but I also think it is all about the genes we were born with!!!

              GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!! :wave

                  10 lbs

I lost about 6 lbs my first week and 4 lbs my second week of induction, so 10 lbs now. It's going slower now but I can feel it in my clothes.

I lost 8lbs on my first week. I guess it really depends on the person's system on how much you lose..

                    Good luck!

This is a YMMV thing (your mileage may vary). You simply aren't like anyone else, therefore you won't lose like anyone else. Stick to the plan as written and be patient.

I agree with Betty. What works well for one person, doesn't for another, and everyones body metabolism is different, and reacts differently. Exercising and drinking water also has alot to do with weight loss, and again, each person's weight loss will vary. What is important, rather than the amount of lbs one loses, is that they are losing inches, and their clothing fits loser. This is what people see, not the amount of lbs. lost!
