  • The truth about food - from the BBC

Just watching a BBC TV programme of this title

Watch live BBC TV channels, enjoy TV programmes you missed and view exclusive content on BBC iPlayer.

    Main points:

    1. Protein fills you up for longer than carbs or fat
    (Atkins says fat)

    2. Calcium in dairy product inhibits absorbsion of fat (50% saving) - add low fat dairy to diet.

    3. Soup fills you up for longer
(Test by liquidising and diluting meal and comparing to an identical solid control)
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
    he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Re: The truth about food - from the BBC

The soup was required to be quite thick and alot of it so that it didnt 'seep' out of your stomach and your body recognised it as food rather than water. The tests were also fairly broad and they didnt test using people of the same metabolic rates.

Rather than showing scales, the tests were more 'Does it work or not'. I know the calcium thing to work, because i ex[erience the most weightloss when my urine is very frothy (i mean extremely so) which indicates calcium.

The other problem with the 'which fills you up longer' thing aswell was that all the dishes were mixed with a HECK of alot of carbs (and entire plate of pasta) which probably makes them invalid when comparing it to atkins.

Mind you, if you look at thier sources of protien, they were egg and bacon, also very high in fat.

Soz if this didnt make too much sense, i have extremely bad throat infect and am trying not to pass out lol :<.

Thats a question, what food do u eat when ur really ill?

I watched this programme last night...It was soooo FRUSTRATING!!

That protein/fat/carb test for how long it keeps you full. How the **** can you test those 3 food groups if the base of the dish is pasta?!?! Thats full blown carbs all the way.

I understand that the programme is based on food but at NO POINT did they mention that to go alongside weight loss, you need to EXERCISE. There was no mention of drinking the minimum requirement of water either.

          *grumble grumble*

I make a lot of soups. We eat them a lot during the winter. They are very filling and great for a chilly day. The rest of the family eats rolls or sandwiches with their soup and I usually have a salad with mine.
