  • NO Iron?

    Re: NO Iron?

The way I understand it is because of the amount of iron you get from the foods you are eating on this WOE. Most vitamins that contain iron contain 100% RDA of iron so you would be getting more than you need and TOO much iron is not a good thing. Maybe Megs will come along soon with a more scientific explanation.

      Re: NO Iron?

Just did a search for Iron overdose, pretty grim stuff. I didn't see exactly how much iron is too much.

      Here is what I found

"Iron overdose is poisoning that occurs when you take an excessive amount of supplements that contain iron.

Iron is an ingredient in many mineral and vitamin supplements. Iron supplements are also sold by themselves. Types include:
      • Ferrous sulfate (Feosol, Slow Fe)
      • Ferrous gluconate (Fergon)
      • Ferrous fumarate (Femiron, Feostat)
Note: This list may not be all inclusive.

          Re: NO Iron?

I would indeed like to know like how much is considered to be an overdose.
And what if someone hardly ever eats red meats, couldn't the lack of iron than become a problem ?

            Re: NO Iron?

soliwit here's a link to animal proteins and iron content: http://drirene.healthandage.com/qa3/qa210199.htm

Leafy green vegetables contain iron, too. And if you cook in a cast iron skillet, you get alittle iron from that too.

Iron is a mineral that doesn't really leave the body readily. So you don't need to eat supplemental iron unless you have a very limited diet and get very little iron from it. There used to be a FAQ about iron around here. But if you do a Google search on "too much iron" you'll find tons of info about it. Also "Dr. Atkins Vita Nutrient Solution" has a entire section on it.
