  • Water retention issues

So, as a female, I'm certainly aware of water retention during TOM. However, I am having really bad water retention this week and TOM is long gone.

I'm drinking water, at least 125 ounces per day, I don't drink soda's and don't eat processed luncheon meats and stuff, so I don't think it's sodium related, although I've been craving salty stuff really bad.

I've been up on the scale as much as 7 lbs this week. Tonight I went to the gym and after putting my legs behind the little roller things on the bench, I had these HUGE dents in my shins that lasted OVER an HOUR! (Pitting edema)

Over the weekend, I had two whole wheat low carb tortillas. I suspect I have an intolerance to wheat, but does anyone think its possible that 4 days after eating them I could still be having fluid retention/bloating because of it??

I don't know if that could be it, but I just wanted to say that I too, retain water terribly. I wake up so swollen (can't get my wedding ring off) EVERY morning, no matter how much I drink! I don't get it!

Joy - Have you ever had BP issues?I am sorry that this is happening to you - seems out of the blue based on your water intake and everything else. You didn't alter your workouts, I am guessing since you didn't mention changes there.

Maybe Megs will have an idea???
Hope it resolves itself soon - I know how uncomfortable that is

What about changes in medication? Ibuprofen will cause water retention issues with some people. Hope it passes (literally!) soon.

Some foods are loaded with sodium but don't taste particularly salty. Is there anything else you've changed in your diet aside from the whole wheat tortillas?

            Re: Water retention issues

I seem to be right there with you on this issue. I have been wondering the same thing. I have been gaining weight every other week (only to lose it the following week) and noticing swelling in my hands and feet and sometimes tongue. I remain in ketosis, and am over a month since starting this WOE and am 100% cheat free.
If you happen to find out what is causing this, I would love some feedback too! I feel your pain!

              Re: Water retention issues

I've had a sinus headache and have taken ibuprofen and ibuprofen/psuedophedrin tablets for the last 4-5 days. I had no idea that ibuprofen could cause water retention.

My blood pressure is usually on the low side of normal....I took it the other night at my grandmother's house but I can't remember what it was...like 110/60-something I think...the bottom number might have been lower. I'll go check it again tonight, but that's pretty typical of my blood pressure and my doctors have never been concerned. My resting heart rate is like 64.

Sally, I had like 3 of my stepson's waffle-french fries....and I had some flour on breaded chicken strips (illegal, bad bad) That was Friday night. Saturday was when I had the tortillas. Nothing not on plan since, or foods that I normally don't eat.

Joy...sounds like it must be the medication then, as Bio says. Do hope this passes very soon for you.

Okay, so my water retention issues resolved themselves thursday of last week....and I even went 2 lbs below my low...so a big WHOOSHIE!

                  Yay! Right?

                  You would think....

                  Saturday morning...191 lbs.

                  This morning 197 lbs.

                  No ibuprofen, no wheat products.

((((((((((Joy)))))))))) So sorry you are dealing with this again. Is the edema obvious like last week as well? I am almost ready to say that you might want to chat with your physician.
