  • net carbs??? Help explain??

Ok, I went shopping yesterday and was reading the nutrition data on everything I bought. I have a question though. When an item says net carbs, does that count? Like it will say 6 carbs minus 4 protiens equals 2 carbs. Do we count only the 2 carbs or all 6. And which is better? no carbs or no net carbs, thanks in advance!

-4 proteins sounds like some wacky math to me. For net carbs you DO subtract the fiber and thats usually the number you see if they give a "net carbs" list. If it were 6 carbs total with 4 carbs of Fiber then you would count the carbs as 2.

Proteins are not a carb. Something is either a fat, a protein or a carb. To figure net carbs you take total carbs and "can" subtract the following:
      - dietary fiber
      - sugar alcohols
      - hydrogenated starch hydrolysate
      - glycerin

      as per Dr.A.

      I debate the sugar alcohols..............

And if you live outside the USA you may find that the deduction of fibre carbs has been done for you!
In the UK and many other countries labels list carbohydrates including sugars in a separate section of the label to the fibre carbs which have already been deducted!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
