  • Blueberry No-Carb Tea

    Hello,

When I started Atkins... I was really worried because I absolutely hate just drinking water. If it doesn't have flavor I have to really force myself to take more than a few sips! I was able to wean myself off of diet drinks for now, however I have found this new tea by Arizona that is blueberry flavored. It is the only thing that I drink now...

I was just curious--Does anyone else drink this? Does anyone else hate drinking plain old water? And also... If the tea is too much--Is there any other limit-free alternative to just water?

    Thanks,

    -N-

I have a feeling you're not going to like this answer, but no. There's no limit-free alternative to pure water. I HATED water. Now, I drink nearly a gallon a day on average...sometimes quite a bit more than that. You might not believe this, because I didn't until I actually did it myself, but if you drink it, you WILL begin to crave it and nothing else will do the trick. This WOE has a natural diuretic effect - so it is VERY important to stay properly hydrated and the only way to do that is with water. This is important to flush out all of the byproduct of fat loss out of your body. Even if you have to start slow and work your way up, do it. If you have to put a lemon in it to get it down, do that. I know some people put cucumber slices in their water. One other thing, it's really hard to get your water in if you are drinking a lot of something else. See if you can skip the other things until your water drinking becomes second nature - then you could have something else say once a day - or on occasion as a treat. I know those bottles of tea that they sell here are rather large - it wouldn't surprise me if you were using your entire day's sweetener allowance on one bottle. Best of all, your skin will look fabulous and your weight loss will be helped as well! Best wishes for success! You can do it!

It's yummy tea but can't replace water like Kylie said. Also, it isn't really zero carbs like the bottle says. If you look in the nutritional facts, I believe it says that there are 2 carbs from sorbitol (a sugar alcohol). I don't drink this tea very often specifically because of the sorbitol, it can give you a nasty tummy ache if you have too much. Some people don't experience problems with sugar alcohols but others (like me) do. I actually used to be able to tolerate some but then I began having problems. I can have small amounts but it's easy to over do it so I try to avoid them. Just be careful. You'll learn to love the water, most of us had some major difficulty drinking so much water. It's a sacrifice initially but you get used to it!

Maybe you could try some different brands of plain bottled water. They do taste different because of their source and the minerals in them. Some people like Dasani because it has more minerals in it. I prefer a plainer taste. But maybe part of the problem is because your tap water tastes bad.

I but fluoridated water in gallon jugs, and drink one of those a day. I put the water in my nalgene bottle with a couple of lemon slices, freeze it overnight, and drink it (and refill it from my gallon jug) all day long. I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE water! It was hard at first, but like the others have said, I crave it now, and I drink over a gallon a day, actually. Yesterday I had only 64oz. and I was dehydrated...

Thanks to everyone for the generous replies...

Tomorrow I am going to try to go the whole day with just water... Eeek! I hope I will be able to make it without wanting to grab for the tea. Also... I forgot to mention I don't drink tapwater. My water comes from a 5 gallon jug. I just can't stand the lack of flavor of it... Hopefully I will want it more if I make myself drink it.

            Thanks again,

            -N-

I'm not sure what passes for "plain old water" in your neck of the woods, but over here, plain old water comes in different kinds:

Tap water - I hate this. Over here in the Philippines there's a chlorine taste to it.

Distilled - This is the purest water you can get. I have a hard time drinking it. BTW, the only difference in distilled water for human consumption and distilled water used in car batteries is that the former is more expensive.

Filtered Tap - This is what I drink in the office. It's also recommended for making coffee. Not my favorite though.

Mineral Water - Doesn't taste different but goes down the easiest IMHO. It's my preferred plain old water.

Purified Bottled - Has a chemical taste to it and is as difficult to drink as distilled.

You might want to try different types of plain water available to you in your area. You might find one more to your liking.

For some reason. I hate the taste of anything that comes in those 5 gallon plastic jugs. There's something about the palstic that alters the taste of what comes in them.

Thank you for the many water suggestions and descriptions, Matawguro...

I will definitely check them all out... Except for perhaps distilled given it's uncanny resemblance to car battery fluid. ;-D

There's a nice bonus to drinking lots of water too... especially if you drink it very cold: It takes energy to heat the water you drink to body temperature, so you burn quite a few calories this way!

                      Re: Blueberry No-Carb Tea

I love water. Always have. I will drink it from the tap, bottle, whatever. I will even drink it from a garden hose if that happens to be handy when I am thirsty. To me nothing quenches my thirst as well as water. I will even drink a full glass of water before I drink some other beverage. I tend to drink very fast. I can down a 16oz glass of water in a matter of seconds.
I know that all people cant drink water easily. My husband hates it. He can go days without a glass of water. He was recently told by his trainer that he must drink at least 64 oz a day. Has he done it? No! I asked him yesterday how much water he drank and he said 1 glass like it was big deal! I don't have any answers for people that dont like water. But I do know you need to try. It is SO IMPORTANT. Lemon, mint leaves, cucumber are all good flavor enhancers. I like my water at room temperature because it goes down much easier, doesn't shock my system when I chug it down. You may want to try that.
