    Re: Brick Wall

In starvation mode, the body turns to muscle tissue to get protein/calories before it goes to the fat stores. That totally defeats our purpose...ESPECIALLY if we're exercising. I'd hate to think all the effort I put into exercise, that because I wasn't eating enough my body would start to cannibalize all my efforts. That would just suck!

Well I am going to keep on doing what I am doing. I am on owl rung one should I continue to move up or stay put? If I am in starvation mode how do I get out of it? It looks like today I am on target for about 1400 or so calories. Part of that is cause I didnt have my olives hot peppers or blue cheese with my salad at lunch today. Just a bowl of lettuce with olive oil and red wine vinigar. Someone els on the other not loosing thread told me to quit that stuff so as of now I am at 900 calories and 9g carbs for the day. I,m going to have to eat a lot of veggies for dinner to make 25g for the day

Bob, for Ongoing Weight Loss rung 1, you can have two cups of veggies with lunch, two cups with dinner. Make sure that you incorporate some of the higher carbohdrate count veggies like brussel sprouts or broccoli. I Lurrrrve veggies!

Also, if you are going to attack this from the idea that you aren't getting enough calories, In my opinion, I would not cut the olives or the blue cheese dressing. Make sure when you cook your veggies that you sautee them in olive oil or butter OR olive oil AND butter (very yummy) to get enough fat (and calories).

Ok I signed on fitday tonight. I put in everthing I had today it is like this 1402 calories, 24g carbs...60% fat, 5% carbs, 35% protien. Portions today quite typical of most days. I did notice a discrepancy in the carb count for cooked fresh brussel sprouts 1 cup= atkins carb counter 9.6, fitday= 13

In fitday, you have to subtract the fiber yourself. It doesn't do it for you like the atkins carb counter does.

                Re: Brick Wall

Ok since I think part or all of my problem is not enough calorie intake and I may well be in a survival mode. I am going to move up to rung two on owl. The added dairy gives me the ability to make it up to 1800 calories per day. If you may have read under the Brick Wall post yesterday which was faily normal eating for me I ate 1400 calories. Thats too low for a 5'11" 200 pound 52 year old male. I believe that would go with my symtems of no energy, no weight loss, and really quick fatigue when I try to exercise. This way I can stick with Atkins and feel I am working through my problem. I just cant bring myself to change to something other when I feel Atkins can be right for life. please give some input on my thoughts. I know several of you said move up when I first posted a problem which I did that same day. I think its the right track but need to move up one more now. Thanks tons for all your help...Bob

                  Re: Brick Wall

I think you need to eat more like the 1800 instead of the 1400. I think that it's been a week on Rung One, so it's a good idea to move up to the next rung. Unless you're gaining instead of just staying the same. I think getting your body out of starvation mode is a key thing right now... For some people, eating too much dairy can cause stalls... but if *I* were you, I would go up and try to even out the calories at a higher place.

I agree with Lyssie. I think those extra calories will really help you out. It will take a few days to a week for your body to realize that it has a constant source of fuel. So stay patient, and best of success with this Bob.

She means, go to rung 2.

Sometimes dairy stalls people, but your first priority is getting enough calories in your body, so don't worry about it.
