  • I found a 0 carb food - how much can I eat?

Last night, I found these hot jalapeno peppers stuffed with feta cheese. They are absolutely scrumptious and I got them to have as a snack between meals. 1 of those little puppies is quite hot and I find it helps with any cravings! Anyways, the nutritional information stipulates that 1 pepper = 0 carbs and 0 sugars, so how do I know how many I can eat? Do I just go by the amount of cheese that is in them and stick to the under 4oz a day rule?

OK there have to be SOME carbs in this food. A jabanero is a pepper, which is a vegetable, which is a CARBOHYDRATE. Cheese has carbohydrates as well. They're fine to eat, as long as you count the carbs.

As far as the cheese question, you are allowed 4oz. per day. What phase of Atkins are you in? Induction? OWL?

      I am on extended induction.

Ok I went onto fit-day to check their ratings. I guess the portion size equates to 0 carbs, it's if you have more than 1 that you start counting carbs, so really this answers my question

      Thanks!

And those peppers count towards the daily vegetable amounts.

You don't have free reign to eat as much of whatever food you want. As Dr. Atkins said, you do not have a license to gorge.

Well luckily for me, I'm not into 'gorge'......especially hot peppers. That would = bathroom nightmare.

I'm not sure where you live, but I am in Canada, and I got them at Costco's. I checked the package for a website, but there is none. They are made by "Larosa Foods" out of Vancouver. However, if you have a "Little Italy" in your area, this is a common staple for them!

                A quick google produced:

1.4 cup of canned Jalapeño peppers, 1.2 grams of carbs, dietary fiber 0.7 g; net carbs 0.5 grams.

Source: w w w.carbs-information.com (I am new, don't know if URL links are permitted or not but ethically sources are necessary.)

My wife is by birth a fire-eater, and it is true, jalapeños burn on the way in, and burn on the way out.

I do not wish to urge anyone to change what works for them. However, one reason the Atkins Diet works so well is it's easy to do.

No busy calorie counting. No constant fussing over what to eat down to the last drop. When you start, learn what has a lot of carbs, and general categories of acceptable foods. Also, needed supplements to avoid injury.

And, enjoy unless you have a problem.

If you use the ketone test strips, you can quickly see if you are messed up. Then, as long as you are burning a lot of fat, no need to make life complicated by worrying in detail about this food and that food.

At the same time, there are 'numbers people' who are most comfortable knowing all the excruciating details. But, if you are not one of them, don't agonize over every low-carb, healthy food.

Contrary to popoular myth, Jalapeños are not very hot. There is one pepper, which is used in the States for decorative plant, which has miniature red peppers on it, one of those tiny things will make a liter of hot sauce! My foster daughter takes them, and with a knife, cuts microscopic slices and eats them with her food.
