  • Different scales...Different weight?!!

I hope this is the right place to post this!
I was just wondering, has anyone had two different scales weigh them at different weights? I ask because for the past year I've just had a cheapy scale I got at Wal Mart, ya know...the one with the little pointer that points to your weight at the numbers? (old timey one I guess) Well I weighed myself on it yesterday and was 287...
Today while at Wal Mart we got a new scale...just to update and get something better. We got a $30 Health-o-Meter Digital scale. I came home and weighed myself... 274.4!!
Now I know I didn't lose that much weight overnight! But could there be that much difference in scales? Should I believe the old scale or the new one? Because obviously I WANT to trust the new one, but that seems too good to be true. haha.

Is the new one digital? I'd believe that one. Those dial ones can go a bit wonky...just be thankful that the new reading is in your favor and the other scale was making you heavier. I was weighing on a scale that made me sound lighter than I was...that was a shock.

Yeah it's digital...I just thought it might be a little more accurate. I didn't expect to lose over 10 lbs!
Aww, now see..that's what I was afraid of when I got on it, that I was going to be Heavier. =P So I'm glad that didn't happen...I can imagine how you felt though. You look incredible though in your signature pic!!! I can't wait until I can maybe look even HALF as beautiful as that!

I also have a health-o-meter digital scale, the most expensive one they had at walmart, it was like 40 bucks. It's going right back to the store too. I stand in the same spots and get a different reading almost everytime I stand on it, like 3-10 pound differences. I only trust the scale at my mall and at the gym, they show the same weight if i weigh myself 20 times in row. I figured for 40 dollars I would be gettin something pretty accurate. Maybe the one you have is different than me and is more reliable.

Scales are crazy. The only accurate scale in my opinion is the old fashioned ones at doctors offices with the sliding scales. At my gym there are two different scales and about a 3 lb difference between them. When I do weigh myself I have to adjust in my mind what I think I really weigh. I usually split the difference. I really dont think you can buy an accurate scale for under 100 bucks, but I would love to be proven wrong. Anyway I wont have a scale in my house. Too much of a head trip.

Good points about scales varying in readings. The key is to weigh on the SAME scale each time--it's not so much HOW MUCH you weigh, but that you're LOSING weight--that's what counts.
