  • Las Vegas Challenge

    I am going to Las Vegas next Saturday for the NASCAR race and I know I am going to have some serious food issues to deal with. The biggest one for me will be drinking beer at the race. Beer and racing and beer and baseball are just a natural fit for me . I dont get drunk, its just an enjoyable activity. So I am planning on drinking a few light beers. I will try and drink a bottle of water in between beers that way at least I can slow down my consumption while doing something good for myself. The other part is just going to be eating all my meals in restaurants. Other than the beer I plan on staying on course but I know I am going to hit a few roadblocks. The last thing I want to do is come home in the middle of a slippery slope. I guess that is my biggest fear. Any words of encouragement are welcome.

    You might be surprised how far one beer will take you! I get hammered quite easily now, and I used to have quite a tolerance. Beers are rather high in carbs, even the light ones...maybe have a glass of wine or liquor if possible?

    Actually, I wouldn't worry about the food (I'd worry about the price, ha ha.) as you will have TONS of choices while you're there! Vegas has about as many restaurants as you can imagine. Even if you go to a buffet or something, there are about a million atkins-friendly choices. Just stay away from the desserts and those 75 cent margaritas, and you'll be fine.

      I still accasionally have a drink or two or three LOL I just make sure it is 0 carbs and then drink alot of water (more than usual) for the next week or so. I like whiskey and diet cola made with splenda. I just don't make it a habit. Just on special occasions

        I've "gone out drinking" a few times since starting Atkins, and I've found it's not terribly difficult to just have a diet coke while everyone else is drinking. I guess it is a mindset, not too much different than not eating bread at dinner, when everyone else is.
        On one occasion, in OWL, I did sip at a rum and coke, so I guess I'm no saint. Have fun on your trip!
