  • OWL Rungs???

I know somewhere on here a complete list of the owl rungs. I am looking for some daily menus of each phase. I am on day 13 of induction and I am planing on staying on another week, only because the first few days I made a few mistakes in my menus. Really nothing major, but we may have had a couple of things not induction friendly. And not to mention the other night we were on the road all day and made the unfortunate mistake of going to Famous Dave's barbecue. I really did not cheat that bad. I had two glasses of white wine, and I had about 7 small spareribs with sauce. I did figure out on fit day that my total carb intake that day was about 25grams and I maintained ketosis, so I am not that worried about it. So if anyone has any info on the rung stages, I would appreciate it..

The list is in DANDR 2002 Chapter 14 and in the OWL forum.

As for daily menues there aren't any. OWL and Pre-Maintenance are highly individualized. As Dr. Atkins wrote: OWL is where you're start tailoring Atkins to fit your special tastes: it's what makes Atkins so unique and such a pleasure.

BTW you might not have maintained ketosis after the wine as the ketostrips measure the acetone (I think) produced by the breakdown of alcohol in the same way as they register ketones!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

From what I read in the book was that when you drink alcohol, the body stops burning fat, and now has to burn off the supply of alcohol. When it is done burning off the alcohol, it begins to burn the fat again. So it is just a temporay stall. I am down 9 pounds is 14 days, and lost 4 of those pounds since Sunday so I am not going to sweat it. I really do not drink that often anymore, but I am going to from time to time. For me I am shooting to lose 35 pounds, and I feel like just cutting out the sugar, pasta and bread alone will get me there.

And while the body is busy burning the alcohol, it breaks down the fat, carb and protein you've eaten and stores it as glycogen and fat.

Elizellen is referring to the by-products of alcohol metabolism. Alcohol is a toxin and so our body has to break it down into relatively less toxic by products. One of the by- products is aceto-acetate and it's removed from your body in your urine. It's chemically similar to the ketone, aceto-acetic acid. Those ketostrips measure the excess aceto-acetic acid in your urine. So there is a possibility that the strips are detecting the aceto-acetate of alcohol breakdown, rather than the ketone, aceto-acetic acid.
