  • Midway(ish) on Atkins.

    Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to post up and say my Atkins diet is going pretty well ( I think?). I started this regime \ life style change back in August 2006 and thus far lost approx 50lbs in weight.

Ive tried to do everthing recommended, initially I didnt exercise at all but now during the last 2 months I try and walk briskly for 35-45 minutes every other day. The beautiful part being that I find myself having the energy to do this now, where as before I couldnt be bothered.

Ive stuck on track and not faltered although I must confess I do drink alot of coffee , approx 5 cups a day with cream of course. I do however drink approx 1-2 litres of water aswell, but not everyday- every other day. I also packed in alcohol completely since August 2006, wasnt easy to be honest.

Hopefully by August more weight will be shedded. Im finding myself in Ketosis almost all the time and I feel great. Im gradually fitting in some old cloths now which in itself is an amazing feeling.

Thanks for your kind support and the presence of this forum, together with ( I forgot his name ) the US chap that has google videos of himself giving advice, I kinda seem as my mentor.

    Cheers

    Freddy

50 pounds bro, way to go!! Awesome accomplishment. Glad to see you're getting in that exercise. Watch that alcohol though, I did the same thing...it can work against you sometimes.

        Good job!

            Thanks Sally,
I will hopefully share some before and after pics when Im done

Im currently on the Atkins extended induction although sometimes I do exceed the 20grams of carbs but never exceed 30-40 grams per day to throw me out of Ketosis. I try to use my carb allocation on greens and salads, although sometimes I have been known to guzzle down some peanut butter. On my birthday recently I got treated to Atkins Morning breakfast bars and his chocolate decandence bar, WOWEEEE, they were soooo GOOD.

Im based in London, UK. Last August when I started I weighed approx 20 stones and Im currently a shade under 15 stones. Im not that tall (5' 7") but big framed naturally, my comfortable weight was approx 11 stones so I suppose I have another 4 stones to go. I may even try 10 stones LOL

Without wanting to sound too pro-atikins , this has to be one of the best things that has ever occured in my life. God bless him.

@Scooterjam, I packed the alcohol up completely, not a drop since August. I had to be brutaly honest with myself, I knew I couldnt do this in moderation and that this would affect my Atkins diet plan as I would lose my inhibitions which would in turn temp me to eat the wrong types of foods whilst tipsy Its been one of the best things Ive done to be honest. Its great being able to wake up every morning feeling fresh and clean. Next step to give up the dirty smoking habit.

Hey, Freddy. If you are getting to 30-40 grams of carbohydrates per day in large salads and veggie portions, you TECHNICALLY are doing Ongoing Weight Loss Vegetable rung...which is perfectly OK! I would recommend to you to start introducing other Ongoing Weight Loss foods in the order in which they are allowed.

Check out the forum specificially dedicated to the Ongoing Weight LOSS phase.

                Thanks for your reply.

I dont consume 30-40 grams of veg or fruit everyday. Im not sure what stage of the Atkins diet Im on as I fluctuate daily, sometimes 20 grams sometimes 30 grams etc etc..

To be honest Im really hesitant to migrate to OWL as Im still happy with my weight loss, still got 40-50 lbs to go, Im affraid this progress might stall if I change now. My intentions are to go onto Atkins life plan when I reach my target weight or OWL if I increase my excercise levels, whichever comes first

                  Re: Midway(ish) on Atkins.

I guess what I'm trying to say is....you ARE already doing OWL phase. Extended induction is still induction. 20 grams MAX and only 3 cups veggies per day. No more than that. Anything more is OWL.

If you are going to stall, you'll stall no matter if you're on OWL or Induction. I'm on OWL and I don't consume 30-40 every day either. Some days I still do 20, but it's with OWL foods.

Cheers for the information, looks like Ive reached a stage on my diet that needs me to get more educated on the subject . Basically like yourself I consume sometimes 20 grams sometimes 30 but never exceed 40, mainly try and stay at 20-25 a day. OWL it is then

                      Re: Midway(ish) on Atkins.

Thanks for your reply Freddy... nice to know things are working out for you.

Here's to you making goal quickly and painlessly!
One caution... if you do run into problems or a stall (and most of us do sooner or later)... the first thing I'd ditch is the bars. They've been known to stall so many.

If you want to read up more on Atkins (which I reckon is fundamental to longterm success)... go for DANDR 2002 edition. That's the one this board goes by as it was the last one DR A wrote in its entirety.

                      Happy Atkineering!
