  • What's the max amount of nuts and cheese one can eat?

I haven't read the book in awhile and am simply going from memory. What have you guys found the max amount of nuts and cheese to eat (ounces) a day to continue losing weight? I'm on my last 15 pounds.

I was on Atkins before and went from 201 to 122lb , which was a little to drastic, considering i'm a 6"0' male, but it's been a few years.. now simply trying to get down to 170 or so. I didn't eat any nuts or cheese back then, and now I am, so i'm wondering if i'm eating too much of it and is stalling me? thanks :>

Are you on induction or ongoing weight loss? Nuts are not allowed on Induction. I know the amount of nuts is relatively small and that it is very easy to go over board with them. I am sure someone in here will give you the exact amount.

I believe it's up to 3 oz of cheese per day and 1 oz of nuts per day (except on induction as LuckyD noted).

The induction amounts are 3oz cheese and no nuts. If you're on your last 15 pounds, you had better be in OWL and nearing premaintenance. This means that you've already gone up the rungs and have added an extra serving of dairy (rung 2) and added nuts and seeds (rung 3).

You should be eating your induction menu (3 cups veggies, 3oz cheese, proteins, fats) and add in servings from the rungs to reach your desired carb level. For example, if you're eating 40g carbs a day, you're eating your induction menu for 20g, add another serving of veggies for 5g, add some fresh cheese for 5g, add a serving of berries for 5g, and perhaps a serving of nuts for 5g.

OWL allows you to choose foods that work for you in amounts that work for you, but it is not license to gorge or binge on certain foods.

For me, I usually eat 2 servings of nuts a day. One with my breakfast, and one as a snack. But I am on rung 9 of OWL and each person's experience is different. Nuts are a hard food to portion-control, and they can cause cravings and stalls in many people.

I got into trouble with nuts, they are very easy to over eat. Plus the added salt can really cause you to retain water.
Right now, I am limiting nuts to one small handful, every other day. Sometimes not even that. I don't allow myself to eat them out of the package.

Re: What's the max amount of nuts and cheese one can eat?

I eat nuts on occasion but I have to severely restrict them. Peanuts and salted/roasted nuts of any kind make me fall off the deep end and want to eat the wallpaper. So, I try to stay away from those.

When I do eat nuts, I try to limit them to 1/2 to 1 ounce. Usually I eat them in the form of almond flour used in a casserole or as a breading for "fried" chicken/veggies. OR I like to eat raw walnuts on a salad.

As for cheese, 3-4 ounces per day. AND if you find yourself "stalled" for long periods of time, cheese and nuts are some of the first culprits. Now, since you are very close to goal, you SHOULD be eating these foods and losing very slowly 1-2 lbs per month. So, make sure you truly know what a stall is. 4 WEEKS of losing NOTHING in pounds OR NOTHING in measurements.
