  • Measuring myself...

I finally bought measuring tape today. I have NEVER measured myself so I have a couple questions. When doing your chest do you measure over your boobs or under them (sorry I said boobs...lol)??? With a bra or without (cause it makes a difference...lmao...all I can do is laugh, I have no more tears ). My hips and my waist seem like the same thing to me bahahahaha!!! I'm confused. I measured where it went in a little on my sides as my waist and then below that, right below my belly button (that I know is there somewhere ) I did as my hips. A lot of me has fallen and I am sure will never get up again *sigh* so measuring is hard for me. It's also scary. More scary than the scale. I hate the tape measure now. I never realized I was so...sooooo ROUND!!! My God!!! I'm use to the scale. I have been in the 300's for 20 years, but in that 20 years I have never measured myself. I'm more embarassed about my measurements than I am or have been about my weight. I wish I had measurements from when I weighed 350 (that is my highest weight)...maybe it would make me feel better
Am I measuring myself right??? And you don't pull it tight right??? I wish I could have closed my eyes

    Re: Measuring myself...

Hi Nicole! Glad you got the tapemeasure! I started 2 weeks ago yesterday and the first week I lost 5 lbs and 11 inches. I measure both arms across the bicept, my bust..yea BOOBS across the biggest part without a bra, under my bust, my waist at its smallest part, about 3 inches below my belly button (my largest stomach area), my hips around the biggest area and the same with each thigh, calf and even my ankles. I have huge legs even ankles and have been embaressed to wear dresses for years now. I overheard a gal where I used to work talking about someone with THICK ankles and I was soo embarressed that I never wore a dress again at that job! I digress.... as to your question about how tight...I dont measure it tight, just snug enough to not slip.

Hope that helps! By the way, I am scared to death to weigh in tomorrow morning. Afraid it didnt budge from last week, but I have told myself that even if its 1 lb, its one lb closer to my goal. I created an excell spread sheet that calculates my losses to date by just logging my weight and measurements every sunday morning. I am hoping it will steadily be a downward movement always..no matter how large or small the losses are!

    Good luck!!!

      Re: Measuring myself...

Ohhhh measure in as many places you can think of. I've lost weight in places that can't be measured with a tape measure LOL Literally have lost 2 ring sizes and from the tops of my shoulders etc.

      Here's where I measure:

      Upper chest--right under the armpits
Breast--right at the nipples (if you need a bra to get those where they are supposed to be, go ahead)
Rib cage--where your bra band goes
      Waist--where it indents
Abdomen--for me this is right across my belly button, for someone else that might not be true. What you want is mid-way between your waist and your hips.
      Hips--right across the pelvic bones
Thighs--at the very top--the fattest part
      Knees--midway through the kneecap
      Calves--at the widest part
Ankle--at the ankle bone I also wish I'd measured lower on my leg 1/2 way between the ankle and the calf--I think I'm FINALLY losing there.
Upper Arm--bicep at the widest part
      Forearm--at the widest part
      Wrist--at the wrist bone

There is a tracking site called www.mybodycomp.com that details all of this and shows you where to measure. It's prett cool and is free. Oh, they have you measure your neck as well and around your shoulders, although I don't do that very often.

        Re: Measuring myself...

Here's my update Nicole! Week two I lost 3lb and 4" Thats a total of 8lb and 15.5" during my 2 week induction. I know its not as mind boggling as some of the losses here, but I am 58 and have been on this diet about 34 years ago so I expect this to go slower for me. BUT I am HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY! In 2006 I lost 30 lbs then gained back exactly 20, so seeing a downward movement of my weight just thrills me to death. I think I am going to stay on the induction for a couple more weeks just to make sure I am doing well.

Note to Joy: YOU look fabulous!!! You are an inspiration! Great work!

            Re: Measuring myself...

Thanks girls! Make friends with your tape measure. Take pictures of yourself too. Even if you never show them to another soul on earth, take them for yourself. When we see ourselves in the mirror each day and are so anxiously waiting for *SOME* change, it gets very hard to see. But, when you go back and look at photos side by side, it's a real "WOW" moment.

              Re: Measuring myself...

              Oh to be Fit (Nicole),

I am a guy and I feel the same way you do on many things about when I started to measure myself. Where and how do I do such a thing? Well after a while I just realised that measuring isn't such a great idea. Just get a blouse or shirt you could not get into before and try it on. If you can get into it again, then you have lost weight. If not, you need a little more time.

I have several sets of cloths that are 38's through 32's (I am at this stage now). that I just try on each week to see if I can fit into them. Now since you are coming from a larger weight you might seen greater decreases. This is a sign that you are following the Atkins program well and to keep up the work. If you see a bump in the road, don't worry about it, just get back up and continue to follow the low-carb way of living. Soon, you will be free and feeling great. No doctor's drugs for Diabetes, High Blood, or even high Triglycerides that many of us have fallen into having.
Atkins Does Work. Trust us all here. Just follow it and learn by it and you will become a whole new person. Now it is not instant like Paris Hiltion and her forays into the media, but it will work.
              Good luck Nicole
