  • Need Advice from successful business travelers

I've been travelling for work for awhile now, but recently I've taken a different job which requires much more travel. I'm not really worried about maintaining while I travel because I've been living this WOL for 6 months now, but I am looking for secrets from those who are used to travelling. Any secrets or tips would be very much appreciated. I do always book hotels with fitness rooms. If it doesn't have internet connection and a fitness room...I don't stay.

I guess my main questions would be:

    1. Airports - I get sick very quickly of fast food salads, and I know I can have a burger or something without the bun...but I don't really like those either, the grease gives me indigestion. I rarely have time to stop in a sit-down restaurant to get something decent between flights.

    2. Grabbing something on the go - I often need to eat in the car, in between client visits, etc. Again, I don't have time to go in and I can't even get the salads (that I get so sick of) because if I eat one while driving, I'll probably show up at a client site looking like a mess.

    3. Do you keep anything in your hotel room? I usually try to have a early dinner, but sometimes I want something small while I'm working in the evening. Maybe I just need to plan better before I go to the hotel, and pick up something from the store that is Atkins friendly.

    4. Business lunches and dinners - Again, I'm used to this way of life, but how do you deal with clients that rave about the garlic bread at the restaurant? A few weeks ago, this super sweet client talked the entire way to the restaurant about how great the breadsticks were and how I had to try them. I don't really think it's appropriate for me to get into my diet situation with a client so I finally had about a 4th of one, and just told her that I had eaten before arriving that morning and wasn't terribly hungry. I am on pre-maintenance and I've done this long enough that something small isn't going to put me back on the road to carbville, but to be honest, bread makes me feel sick now. I was so miserable on the way home that day. Anyway, people often suggest stuff, which I can get around easy enough. More often, they order their favorite appetizer which I just have to try (because they want me to, not because I am tempted). I am in sales, so I do like to make them happy...

Anyway, I'll take any advice that I can get...
