I was watching The View lsat week. For those of you who don't know what show that is it's 4 women discussing everything from health to Government.
Most people know Barbara Walters and Rosie O'Donnell.
Well they were talking about diets and it disturbed me very much to hear them say Atkins says "no carbs" which is dangerous. I was trying to find a way to write to the show to tell them that was false advertising.
I've actually tried South Beach diet and it never worked for me like this one.
I have no cravings. South beach keeps the cravings up.
Also other diets have not worked for me so I can say this diet is the best so far that I can tell for me.
It's lowered my blood pressure and very soon I'm going to have my cholesterol checked.
Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone out there has any thoughts on Atkins being condemed.
I'm afraid to tell anyone I'm on this diet UNTIL I loose my weight and then I'll tell them I did it on Atkins.

    Hi there,

    Two things:

    1. Go to the show's website. There is usually a "Contact Us" link. Write to the Exec Producer to complain.

    2. Check out my post about the Stanford Study (just posted it).

    Good luck!

Yeah, I heard them say that the other day. My thoughs were that they should have educated themselves about the different 'diets' before they talked about them on the program.

That's asking too much from them.

Seems all of Day Time television has started attacking Atkins now that spring is coming. I was watching Rachael Ray two weeks ago and she had a doctor on that blasted the Atkins diet as unhealthy and lumped all low carb plans as one. He wasn't as harsh as I expected because he did give it credit for eating healthy vegetables...but he was pretty much down on it...wanted to jump through the television and strangle him lol

                Re: The View

Once any person or organization begins their criticism of this program with a description of what Atkins isn't (i.e., "no carbs," "dangerous," "you only lose water," "you always gain all the weight back," etc.), they instantly lose all credibility in my book. Fortunately, the truth always prevails in the end.

                  Re: The View

I listened to the NPR Stanford Study and it was really good. Thanks so much for telling me about it.
I did Weight Watchers and didn't feel well health wise due to too much carbs. The points are based on keeping fats and proteins low.
I've done the Zone, and others.
This diet by far is the best as far as I'm concerned.
I'm not bored, it's healthy, I'm eating my share of vegetables and make sure I have good fats such as olive oil and flaxseed. Plus I'm loosing weight and my blood pressure went down the first week of being on it.
I was very disappointed in hearing that remark on the View.

I received Rachael's "low carb" cookbook for Christmas. I applaud her efforts for trying, but some of the things she said drive me crazy. "Low-carb has been the toughest trend to weather, hands down. I have been miserable and angry for months, trying to churn out pastaless, breadless, tomato and fruitless food for the show" Tomato and fruitless? What?? "So, I came to a very happy place: low-er rather than no-carb 30-Minute Meals." No-carb? Those are just a couple examples. This book is more for people that want to eat LESS carbs, but aren't LOW carb eating. Maaaaaaaaybe maintenance. It has some ingredients that aren't LC friendly, but you might be able to get away with occasionally.

Yeah, I agree. I feel really dangerously unhealthy losing 70 pounds. I shudder to think how much better off I'd be weighing 295 pounds, stuffing myself with bread and pasta and fruit and sugar. I'd be much better off. It wouldn't cost anything to eat that way.......oh yes....that's right.....because I'd be DEAD!!!

Phode, I'm going into hiding after I write this....I can't stand Dr. Phil. We have a tv in the waiting room and it's usually tuned to the View and Dr. Phil. My office is adjacent to the waiting room, so, guess what I get to hear every morning and afternoon? If my office had a window, I'd close my door and prop it open for ventilation, but since I'm in a windowless closet I can only keep the door closed for so long (unless I want to suffocate in here )

Anyhow, I figured out why they made those comments. Remember Starr Jones? She left the show and Barbara Walters hated her. Anyhow, after Jones left, they would bring up the dangers of "fad diets" and obesity surgery----as a slam against Jones. Well, it looks like Starr Jones was in one of the New York tabloids yesterday: much slimmer and trimmer than she had been while on The View. So I figure they were slamming Jones with the dangerous-diet comments. Meow!
