  • miserable :(

I have a question for the ladies out there.

I started birth control about 4 days ago, affectionately called "the pill". It's a little case and you take these teeny tiny pills, once a day at the same time every day. I am getting married and I HATE children, so I don't want any, and thus birth control is manditory.

Thing is, it makes me sick to my stomach in the afternoon, every afternoon after I take it (I take it at 9:00am). It makes it difficult to eat, because everything I eat feels like it is sitting in my stomach like a rock, and then the next day I don't want to eat that food, the idea of it makes me adverse to the food. >.<

It's making me miserable, does anyone know how long this lasts? I didn't pack my salad for lunch today because I couldn't stand the thought of it, and I really, really, really don't want to take that hateful pill this morning, but I don't have a choice. >.< *cries*

    Re: miserable

    Hi Maerow,

Sorry to hear the pill is affecting you badly. I've never taken it, so I can't say whether the affects go, but I thought I'd say firstly that I think there are quite a few different kinds of pills and combinations that you can try if one doesn't suit you. So could ask your Dr.

Also, other forms of contraception can be as effective. If you're not up for the barrier methods, then there are IUDs, implants, etc. I read something the other day about the natural method, which if done properly is as effective as condoms - involves noticing changes, measuring your temperature etc.

    Hope you feel better soon

What about Depo Provera? I was on it 13 years and would go back on it in a new york minute were it not for the fact that I'm trying to conceive

I initially wanted depro, but my doctor recoiled in horror when I suggested it, she advised she had a larger number of woman complain about it, and after you have the shot you can't reverse it until it ends normally. If this doesn't stop soon I am going to go whine at my doctor. "Morning sickness" STINKS! >.<

I have a copper IUD and love it! No hormonal side effects, very effective, no pill to remember to take! They need to be replaced every seven years I believe. However at any time youc an have it removed and fertility returns right away.

Maerow, try taking it at night. Maybe that will help. I'm sorry you don't feel well. I was on the wretched pill for years also. It took a few different types before I found one that didn't make me feel like crap.

              Re: miserable

Your doctor needs to do some research on it. I can give you my doctor's number for her to call her if you'd like? LOL

There is another shot that will counteract the Depo if you have problems with the depo. I'd definitely give it a try before dismissing it completely.

Here's what happens....For some women, (I was one of these) menstruation stops completely on Depo. HOO_RAH! No bloat, cramps, pimples, mood swings. WAHHOOOO! Other women have just the opposite problem...constant menstruation for 3 months. That's a bum deal and I can't help but recoil in horror at that thought either. But, there is another shot they can give you that negates that, if it happens.

In my 20's, I was getting the Depo shots, and although rare (less than 5% my doctor said) it blurred my vision, I lost hair, and gained 70 lbs before it was out of my system......I have an I.U.D. now, for alot of women, it makes for heavy cramping, but it works well for me!

                  Re: miserable

Wow. I cannot believe you used the word HATE for children. I used to work around children and they got on my nerves so bad I never thought I would want any. 5 years after marriage I changed my mind and I am so glad I did. Anyway, if you never want children, why not get you or your partner "fixed"?

There are several other alternatives besides the pill, but when I was on it, I would not even consider others because most after doing research had a lot more problems than the pill. My husband recently got "fixed", so all we wanted was one child, and now I don't have to worry about the pill.

                    Re: miserable

I took the Pill for 30 years with no problems and no unplanned children. I know that many people can't tolerate it so well, so I hope you can make it work. I always took mine at bedtime every day and never had problems with feeling sick. If that doesn't do the trick, definately talk to your doctor about it. There are many pills and you should be able to find one formulated just right for you. Good luck!

                      Re: miserable

Maerow, something to check out is a shot called Lunelle...with one caveat.

When I took Lunelle, I LOVED it! It was effective immediately, and I had NO weight gain, no mood swings, no side effects whatsoever (well except for lots and lots of lovin'!) and I thought it was the perfect birth control. They did, however, recall it for a while as the batch I'd recieved wasn't formulated right. Check and see if it's available. I don't know if my awesome experience with it is due to the fact that I wasn't getting quite enough hormones from it or not, but it's worth investigating. It was just a once-a-month-shot.

The other birth control I tried was the Nuvaring. It was ok--it was comfortable, and all you had to do was put the ring in for 3 weeks, take it out for one week, and put a new one in after the "empty" week. The drawback to it was that during sex, my boyfriend would "catch" on it and pull it out sometimes. However, this REALLY gave me horrible mood swings, weight gain, irritability.

I can't be relied upon to take a pill everyday (I can barely remember my vitamins) so I wanted something that wasn't a daily thing, and also something that still allowed me to have a period.

There are many methods out there, that's all I'm saying...check out other hormone combinations, as maybe your nausea is caused by a certain hormone. Oh, have you looked into the patch? I had a friend who loved those...

                        Re: miserable

As a side note (I realize not pertinent here), the patch loses some of it's effectiveness for folks over 200lbs. At least that's what the package insert says.

I still believe in having one (or both) of you "fixed". No difference except you never have to worry about birth control. Well, and I guess you wouldn't be able to have nookie for a bit afterwards...

                          Re: miserable

Wow, I think I will talk to my doctor again about depo, maybe that would be better then this. Thanks to everyone for your info, I have alot to consider!

sexywannabe> Yeah it's probably too harsh of a word, but I really don't enjoy being around children. I don't know if its just my area, but I can't go into a store or a movie theater or a mall without listening to someones screaming child. I watched at my local grocery store a woman carrying her small child, the girl was screaming "I want it I want it, I hate you, I hate you!" and slapping her mother. I couldn't handle that...and you can't safely punish children like my mom did me anymore. Spanking is out, and my god you can tell.

There are other issues too, time, money, freedom, body changes, etc, that I personally don't want to touch with a 10 foot pull. I wanted to get fixed, but my soon-to-be husband insisted that we wait for at least 5 years after we get married, just in case. I think that's a smart idea, but I know I don't want a child. It's a wonderful thing for other folks, but not for me.

                            Re: miserable

There are still plenty of people who punish their children with spanking. If my child ever *thought* about smacking me, his butt would be regretting it. While a lot of parents may be trying too hard to get the "love" of their children by being easy on them, not everyone does. That's not a child's fault, and not a reason to hate them. Hate the parents. The other issues you're stating have nothing to do with the children themselves, those are things you want for yourself, and while they would keep you from having children, they would also keep you from having some pets...

Sorry if I'm offending. I think hate is a very strong, horrible word which should not be used in generalized statements.

No offense taken. I didn't mean it that harshly, I will try to pay a bit more attention to the words I pick. It's hard to sense the tone of a post over the net. And I agree about the pet thing. I don't have/want dogs or cats or large emotional birds (cockatoos, macaws, etc).

I have a cockatiel and fish.
