    Re: miserable

Maerow, I had to try umpteen different kinds of BCP before I found one that I could tolerate. And then, I take it at night, right before I go to bed.

      Re: miserable

Maerow--I think it's totally fine to not want kids. I'm a teacher, and I LOVE what I do--I really love working with these kids, but the more I work with them and the more I think about my life, the less I want ones of my own. I have 350 children everyday, that's more than enough.

And for the record, I don't want pets either. But at least I don't have to worry about BC for those.

I wasn't trying to influence anybody to have children. I don't think there's anything wrong or have anything against not wanting them. For the record. All my post was about was the word.

Hmmm, that might be a good idea. I already took my pill...if I change it to night time, I wonder if I should take one tonight or if I should wait until tomorrow, wait for the full day then take it at night tomorrow night. Hmmmm, worth a shot.

            Re: miserable

I have to agree w/ Rouge on this one. I am on the shot and I have no complaints whatsoever. The pills are horrible for me...I'm moody, my pms never ever got any better, and the highest low dose wasn't even strong enough..and b/c of my family's history of Breast cancer, I enjoy knowing that I can have a birthcontrol option w/ out Estrogen. I have had no bleeding whatsoever.

The one thing about depo vs all other forms is it does carry the risk of bone density loss...if used longer than 2 years. But taking vitamins being healthy and exercising does help. They say anyone who can't use any other form can continue to use it longer... That's me!

One last thing, and Rouge also told me this (she's the bomb) ...the weight gain associated w/ Depo is b/c it says right on the packaging...it interferes with how well your body metabolizes carbs...so for us Atkins chicks, it is a good option, IMO. I have had no problem losing weight so far.

And one last thing, I think that it is a wise decision to wait the 5 years. I love the fact that I have two miniature me and DH running around. It's amazing just to look at them from time to time and know that YOU created that. It's beautiful. I'm not trying to sell you or anything, but you never know how you'll feel in a few years. And take it from someone who knows, I have a 2month old and a 2 year old...and although he may have his fits here and there...parents are responsible for their children..(well young children. You also get old ebough and know better but that's another topic entirely. )

Only you know what you want out of life and it's better to know now instead of after the fact, ya know what I mean??

I hope this helps. Ultimately, you have to go what works for you...try new things, perhaps even see a new dr and get some other medical advice.

            Good Luck!

              Re: miserable

Take it tonight. Otherwise you will have a gap in your pills and could become pregnant depending on what week you are on ( I learned the hard way..LOL). I have been instructed to take 2 at one time by my dr, so I know it is something that is not unheard of. Also, waiting could result in breakthrough bleeding, which is a whole nother horror..LOL

              Hope this helps!

                Re: miserable

I was on one version for years and it made me crazy! So, I went off for years and used other forms of BC. Now I use Yasmin -- no problems at all. If one pill doesn't work, talk to your doctor about other brands and dosages. What works for one person may not work for another!

By the way, I am another one who doesn't wish to have children. Of course, at almost 43, my chances are getting slimmer and slimmer, which is just fine by me! BUT I adore being Auntie Stacy to my friends' kids. Play with them, then go home to peace and quiet!

                Good luck!

I'll make this short and sweet....

I took my pill at night, and it worked out fine.

Good idea to wait the five years. I thought I never wanted children, either. At age 36 I literally woke up one morning and knew I wanted a child. Got off the pill after having been on for 18 years, and got pregnant on the first try.

Sometimes I wonder what in the **** I was thinking... he sucks the life out of me at times. LOL... still glad I had him!

Stephanie, I'm glad you like the Depo. I know it's not for everyone, but it was an excellent choice for me for 13 years.

Maerow, definitely research your options. Our news tonight had a segment (though I was in the other room and just heard bits and pieces) about new BC options. One of them is some sort of implant that is for 3 years...and they were talking too about the IUD. There are sooooooooooooo many options these days and I think it's great!

                          Re: miserable

I use the sympto-thermal method, and have for about 4 years. It is a modern version of natural planning, in which you determine the fertile period on the basis of biological signs like temperature and vaginal fluid and cervix position, instead of just using a calender.

It works because the biological signs work for cycles of different lengths (necessary as they differ from woman to woman, and often month to month in one woman). That is something the old and almost useless calender method didn't do. There are classes and books for learning how to do sympto-thermal.

HOWEVER, it does have a significant human-error failure rate, and for some time each month you have to go without having intercourse, or else use some other method (like a condom, which will have its own failure rate). Probably not the best for a couple that REALLY REALLY doesn't want to ever have kids. (Though the pill has a human error rate too.)

Our case is/was more that it would be extremely inconvenient now, but it wouldn't totally ruin our lives. So we were willing to take what might be a higher risk. I didn't want to take the pills.

I started birth control about 4 days ago, affectionately called "the pill". It's a little case and you take these teeny tiny pills, once a day at the same time every day. I am getting married and I HATE children, so I don't want any, and thus birth control is manditory.

Thing is, it makes me sick to my stomach in the afternoon, every afternoon after I take it (I take it at 9:00am). It makes it difficult to eat, because everything I eat feels like it is sitting in my stomach like a rock, and then the next day I don't want to eat that food, the idea of it makes me adverse to the food. >.<

It's making me miserable, does anyone know how long this lasts? I didn't pack my salad for lunch today because I couldn't stand the thought of it, and I really, really, really don't want to take that hateful pill this morning, but I don't have a choice. >.< *cries*

I would suggest immediately talking to you doctor about it. They have many different types of birth control pills because based on your height, weight, metabolism, etc you could react different than another person. You should not have ANY negative side effects other than not having children and knowing when to expect your period. Call your doc!

My doctor didn't know about it either. I remember sitting in a long line at the bank drive thru and opening my bottle of depo and read the insert and thinking "No wonder!". I gained a LOT of weight on my 13 years of depo....all the while shoveling in pizza, bread, cake, chips, cake, ice cream, cake, candy....blah.

HOWEVER, I had no problem losing weight with Atkins while on Depo. So, don't let that be a fear. I think that people who decide to take Depo are best advised to manage their carbohydrate intake.

I am another Depo user who wished she hadn't. I was on Depo, the only bc I took in my life. I went on it 6 weeks after the birth of my son. I had every horrible side effect including a 40 pound weight gain in several months that I am now taking off...I also had the non stop periods, ewwww...

I will say for condoms, I have used condoms my whole life and never had a problem. My son was planned. We had to stop using condoms to concieve...they do get in the way though, LOL.

If the hormones are effecting you negativly then try a lower dose bc pill (which I warn is not as effective) or a copper IUD, although I am not sure if they sell those in the US for implantation.

                                Good luck!
