  • Going on a cruise...

My fiance and I are going on a seven day cruise to mexico on April 15th. We are going to stick steadfast to the diet until then, but on the boat...any suggestions? We just started and right now are in week two of induction. We are thinking we'll stay on induction until the cruise, maintain basic guidelines on the cruise adding in a little chocolate and alcohol (because after all it is a vacation) and then get back to it after the week is done.

Have any of you been on a cruise-how did you cope?

You may undo everything you have done if you let yourself do the chocolate thing. Alcohol - As long a you keep it no carb i don't see you gaining any weight. Maybe stalling though. We sometimes have a 0 carb liquor mixed with diet coke. We went on a 3 day cruise and didn't find it hard at all to stick to it.

I've never been on a cruise, but when I go anywhere, I always pack pouches of tuna with the little condiment size mayo for a salad. I take pork rinds, jerky, cheese sticks, pepperoni, and any other legal foods that I can. I take bottled water and my DANDR. If you have a insulated lunch pack, you can take the frozen blue ice and it will keep your foods cool - so you can take it with you. I've been to conferences, vacations, trips with my husband in his truck and weekend outings. You can call ahead to the ship and put in a request for the foods you can eat. They always have diabetics and people with other food restrictions call and place special eating requirements. I've never had a problem....Good luck and have fun. Be safe!

Its the best diet to be on for a cruise!!! I have only been on Princess, and it was great - Breakfast - all you normal hot things, ie bacon, sausage, eggs, omelettes etc... plus cold meats and cheeses!! so plenty of choice.

For lunch if you're at sea, we had a buffet style restaurant that had fabulous salads and fresh meat, and hot meats - plus all your salad dressings!! really nice!

then the evening meals always had steak, salmon, salads, seafood - all I tried to do was avoid the potatoes!!! which worked!!

For dessert I tried my best to have the cheese board!!! but I did indulge in a several puddings!!! hehe!!

Plus dont forget there's normally a gym on board - so go there, or do the promonade deck for power walking!!

I did put weight on - this was down to the alcohol!!! oops!! but it soon came off when I came home!! we did a 15 night cruise and I think I put about 6lbs on - which I was thrilled over!!! I've been known to put 14lbs on before now!! hehe!!!

        Have a fantastic time!!!

I would think on a cruise there would be a TON of legal food options. Stick with roasted or grilled meats, veggies, salads, etc. And I think there might be some awesome exercise classes available too! I would not go off-plan, especially in a situation like being on a boat in the middle of the ocean. It's a slippery slope!

              Re: Going on a cruise...

I went on a Silversea cruise a few months ago and every menu had a "low carb" option in every menu.. which was great.. made it very easy to choose what to eat.. more expensive than the other cruises, but something to consider.. even all the deserts were made with splenda.. i didn't gain a pound and ate 3 times as much in excellent 5 star food

I like the sound of Silversea!!!! Princess did a low calorie type of option, but not low carb - how great is that!!!!

I would also be willing to bet they will possibly have some sugar free options for dessert to accomodate the diabetics. It cant hurt to ask. Your food selection will be amazing. I doubt you will want for anything. As far as the booze goes stick with wines and distilled drinks with diet mixers. No fancy foo foo drinks...they are loaded with sugar. Bloody Mary's are great legal drinks, just dont overdo! Have a great time!

Jane is so right; I adore Princess! I went on a British Isles cruise and boy, was it easy to stay on task. My next cruise is this month (Carnival Conquest), and I am really excited. I never eat better!
