  • Fitday....

    Hi everyone!

    Does everyone here use 'Fitday'?

I just can't seem to get to grips with it at all. It's seems very fiddly and time consuming having to search out food items..then they are often not what I was looking for in the begining!
Is it an American based site?

Maybe it's just me and I'm doing something wrong
Don't think I'm going to be using it anyway.

I'm very interested to see other peoples views on 'Fitday'

    Re: Fitday....

I'll probably catch h*ll for saying this, but I find Fitday more trouble than it's worth for me. There are many, many people, though, on the boards who absolutely love it and depend upon it greatly. I just find that very few of the values thay assign to foods match what the labels say for the foods I eat or the serving sizes they use aren't the same that I am eating (for example, when I use 2 tablespoons of onions and their serving size is 1/4 cup), so everything has to be entered as a custom food. I know that if I would just bite the bullet and enter all of the custom foods that I eat, it would be much, much easier to deal with. I just don't have much time to be on the computer and I would rather spend that time here with y'all! I do definitely see how it could be a great help to those who have the patience to use it, but as I have lost 11 pounds in 21 days and I don't have the patience for it, I guess that I am doing fine without it. I am sure that there are others who can give you some tips for using it.

      Hey you guys,

I'm one of those who love fitday, but, hey, Mitzi, I feel your pain. It seems that on the online version I also have to enter all of my stuff as a custom food. It totally sux. I bought the PC version which is MUCH better, but then there's the "I can't log whenever" issue. I have to be on my "home" computer to log my progress, and can't when I'm at work, at the hospital, etc. So I find I only use the on-line version. It's still helpful, but I would never give you h*ll for telling it like it is. Fitday online is less than perfect.

          Hey Mitzi,

So where are you, geologically?? I'm in Northern Virgnia, Haymarket to be exact. I love where I live, but could def see myself is northern Indiana. (FYI anyone selling property in Northern Indiana, send me a note).

Other than that, yeah, well, it's all good.....

I'm one of those who loves it. I couldn't keep track of my percentages without it. But I sure can see how it would be frustrating.

You really don't have to enter everything custom. Onions aren't listed as tablespoons but it does have other choices you can tweak. If you use 2 tablespoons, estimate it as a medium slice. Or you can put in .12 cups - 16 tablespoons in a cup so it would be 1/8 of a cup.

Give it a chance... you might learn to love it too!

              Re: Fitday....

I use Fitday pretty regularly. I agree that sometimes it's a pain but it helps keep me on track. I use it more as a guideline. If something is off by a few carbs compared to what my package says I'll either just keep that in mind or adjust the serving size on fitday to match the carbs my package says. It's best to use the "raw" selection and to enter things individually too. For example, they have a caesar salad listed. Well I don't know what's in the salad for that entry so I'll enter lettuce, cheese, dressing etc separately instead of using their caesar salad choice.

lol.. I was scrolling down to see the onion tablespoon vs cups thing and I see that Dream beat me to it! That's what I was going to say too. 1T = .0625 cups, so 2T would be .12 cups. The only things I ever enter as custom foods are recipes I make a lot and things that aren't listed.. such as my flax meal.

Also, make sure you go to "goals" and tell it to count fiber so you can subtract it.

Give it a try and see how you like it. If not, just use a journal and a carb counter book and keep track that way.

                Thanks for the info guys,
I think, for now though, I will continue without it.

Who knows? Maybe in the future I will become a convert lol...doubt it but never say never!

                  Re: Fitday....

I was a 3 year fitday user until I found www.thedailyplate.com. I much prefer it and even paid $25 for a gold membership. It has far more products, restaurants, brand names than fitday, has more charts etc. It also has a recipe tool, and a 'meal' option where you can add ingredients for something that you eat regularily with the same ingredients, like if you are making an omlette every morning, so you don't have to add them individually every day. When you enter a custom food or recipe, it enters it in the public database as well. though that is the downfall, if a person enters the wrong information it's public...though everyone can edit all foods which helps if you catch the mistakes. i haven't found very many.

I didn't mind fitday, i just find this site has more options and takes me less time. I know a few others tried it and went back to fitday. guess it depends onthe person. i got tired of the whole custom foods thing.

Hey, Heidi... I missed this post yesterday, so I will answer now. I was born in, raised in, and have never lived anywhere other than Baton Rouge, Louisiana (hence the "y'all" in my best southern drawl that you will see in a lot of my posts!).

                    See ya!

                      Dream and Brandi,

Thanks for the encouragement about using Fitday. Holy cow, the math involved just to find info on the onions! LOL... I already hate to cook, so adding math to the process just blows my mind. I think I will stick to what's working for me so far.

There are others here who have had success without using Fitday or other such tools. (For example, if I remember correctly, SugarFreeSheila never used it and wow, she's one of my heroes!) However, like WheresMeFeet said, I will never say never...might come in handy one day. So, I do appreciate the advice. Like I said earlier, I can definitley see where it could be extemely helpful to someone who likes doing that sort of thing.

Thank you very much for your replies.

                        Re: Fitday....

I'm a fitday lover! It's pretty basic, but that's all I want. I just want to see numbers. The custom foods thing doesn't bother me, because if you enter it once, you've got it forever. Also, the measurement issue is not a problem because I'm a nerd and know the cup equivalent for tablespoons, etc. I use it everyday, and it's given me a really good foundation for estimating and tracking carbs. One day fitday was down, so I tracked everything in my head. When the site was working again and I entered in my foods, my estimation of carbs and percentages was EXACTLY right. It's a good tool to have and use.

If you don't like fitday, try some other sites out there like thedailyplate, which has TONS of features! There are many sites, some that have features like body composition tracking, recipe databases, and more.
