  • I'd like some gum

    Hi, I really enjoy chewing gum. It's not going to kill me if I don't have any, but I'd sure like some. How many of you chew gum? I know the sugarfree variety is flavored with sugar alcohols as part of the sweetner, but at such a small amount in one stick is it that bad? I haven't had any yet, but there are times that a piece would be nice when I'm out and my breath is an issue. Any thoughts?

    Good Question, and one I'd like an answer to. I used to chew 2 to 4 sticks a day of Extra sugar free bubble gum. I've cut that out since being on Atkins, but would like to know if it's really an issue. Thanks for bringing this up.

      I know that there are many who are going to say "Step away from the gum!" But, I have been chewing one to two sticks a day since I started this 3 weeks ago, and so far, so good. Of course, if I start to plateau, it will be one of the first things I eliminate to see if that helps. I've been alternating between Extra and Orbit. To me, at times it's good for taking my mind off of hunger or just giving me a fresh mouth.

        IMO, no one ever got fat off SF gum. Go ahead and enjoy! I've chewed gum all my life, including the past 5 1/2 years on Atkins.

          Great to hear!! I really didn't think SF gum would make a difference, but it's good to hear from someone else. Thanks ttdriver. I will continue to enjoy my sf extra in moderation!!!

            count your carbs though. it's best to count 1 gram per stick.

              ohhh I miss my SF gum as well...and it does help to take the mind off what your really wanting some days...I hope to be able to enjoy it again some day soon

                just to back up what i told you. this site is for Extra, a sugar free gum by wrigleys.
                looks like you better be adding 2 carbs per stick. note that the first graph is for

                  yeah, it's the classic Extra SF bubble gum that I chew. I used to have like 4 a day, sometimes 6. That's a LOT of carbs. I'll try to stick to 2 sticks from now on...Thanks, Jimmie..I was losing control for a few there.....

                    I definitely chew gum! You do need to keep count and I don't go more than 1 or 2 pieces a day.

                    I chew Orbitz but thats just a personal choice. Not only does it curb that "sweet" craving of mine but it does keep my mind off food.

                    I also heard somewhere that when we do a no to low carb diet, our breath seems to bring out more of a scent so I always want to make sure that if the smell of my breath is going to be more noticeable that it be FRESH!

                      I usually chew a couple pieces a day too. Especially when I need to occupy my mouth if other people are eating somethig extremely tempting.
