  • The ORIGINAL Atkins book!

Today,my mother and I were discussing the new "diet" I was going to try. She asked me what "diet" I was starting and I told her "Atkins". She told me that she tried it years and years ago. I said that's impossible, although Atkins started in the '70s it did not really take off until the '90's. She disagrred and told me that she had a book on it and everything. Damn if she didn't produce that book.
Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution copyrighted 1972.
Briefly running through it, it seems fairly close to what we have now. His different phases were called Levels but it is very close to now. His scientific explanation of the "diet" is very very similar as in todays book.
It is amazing how it never really took off until the mid '90s.

Actually alot of people did it in the 70's from what I know. My mother did it..funny I remember her jar of ketostix inthe bathrrom when i was a kid. i was fascinated withthem but had no idea whathtey were. LOL. I thinkthe 70's diet was much stricter on the carbs was it not? as far as OWL went?

I think it died down with the low fat craze in the 80's.
