  • I made it one whole week!

This is my 3rd attempt at atkins. I started last Monday and got soooooo sick the first night. Now, it's been 1 week and no cheating! The hardest thing for me has been no caffeine, but I am doing ok so far.

Yesterday, I went to my mother in laws for dinner, something we have done every sunday for 12+ years. That was the hardest part of this diet, as I love my mother in laws home cooking!

She didn't know I was on atkins and made me chicken n dumplings and also brownies for desert. I didn't eat any of that and had a salad with grilled chicken instead. I went for a walk while they ate brownies!

I think I did good, but that was the toughest day, next to the first day where I got so sick.

I was a little down that no one said I looked like I was losing any weight.
I need to get a scale at home to track my progress, but I am more concerned with size than weight.

I have sleep apnea and high cholesteral and I am hoping the weight loss and this diet will take care of both.

xecutech, that's a big accomplishment. Congratulations!

Maybe get your Mother-in-law on YOUR side by saying "Hey, Mom, you know I *LOVE* your cooking and yet I want to be successful on my diet. So, maybe can you take a look at this web site, or this cookbook (500 Low carb recipes by Dana Carpender, or the Atkins book, or George Stella's Livin Low Carb) to get some ideas how to "low carb" some of your recipes??" Tell her to get creative for you.

I think that the people who LOVE YOU and LOVE to cook will find it a way to be SUPPORTIVE of your WOL, and can have fun being creative for you. I *love* low carb cooking.

Congrats! That's awesome. Sometimes it's hard to be strong when it comes to traditions like that, but you did it!

I LOVE the idea of giving her a cookbook!

xecutech... I think it's absolutely terrific that you went for a walk when others were eating brownies. Not only did you get out of temptations way, but you exercised, and did something that would help with your weight loss too. A double success!

Keep doing what you're doing... believe me, it really does get easier as you go along.

Thanks guys, haven't been posting the past few days. My energy level is up, I feel full and haven't had headaches or sickness. This is pretty fun. I will try to post more later and share some recipes. Thanks again!

WTG!! Sounds like you got a good handle on things, I bet that walk made you feel prouder than eating the brownies would have. Keep up the great work!!

Re: I made it one whole week!

Again, thanks for the support! I joined a gym tonight and worked out for about an hour. 20 minutes on the bike, 30 minutes treadmill and the rest playing with the weights.
I weighed myself and got a bit discouraged as I am at 212, not 205 like I thought, but I did have alot of water tonight before i weighed.

This was a dr's scale and the other one tht said 305 was a scale at my moms house. I think I need to invest in one, but I could use the gym scale now. I know I should weigh in the morning on an empty stomach, that would be better.

Hi -- yes be careful of weighing after excercise with all that water on board - it will only give you a false reading. I like to weigh first thing in the morning after i visit the little girls room -- then i stand on one foot and think "light" thoughts ! ( only joking!)
well done so far -- looks like you are doing great!!!

                      Cheers
