  • Coconut Oil

Ok, i've heard the benefits of coconut oil, but i've also heard the horror stories that people say about it making them sick, that its nasty.

Are the coconut oil pills the same as the oil itself???

    Re: Coconut Oil

I dont know about the pills. I just started using coconut oil recently so I cant say if there are any real benefits yet. I have read a lot about it and most is really positive so thats why I thought I would try. I think the key is to start off with small amounts. When I started using it I only used about 2 teaspoons. Now I use about a tablespoon. I use it for cooking but it burns fast so you must not use it on a high heat. I also put it in my tea as a suggestion from someone and its not a bad way to use it. I am sorry though that I didnt buy the more expensive brand since the one I bought Spectrum, does not taste like coconut at all. It is an expensive oil and the price jumped from 8 bucks to 17. If I get through this jar I will splurge on the $17 one.

      Re: Coconut Oil

Was wondering if anyone else is using this? any results? I had read about the benefits and it's supposed to help with a lot issues I already face so I decided to buy some today. I found it at GNC. It seems just about everywhere I've turned online that mentions low carb brings up coconut oil. I've read bad things about it too but I hear bad things about atkins all the time. so....

Just curious if anyone uses it and how. I was a dummy and tried to put it in a glass with ice. LOL so it turned to *rocks* of coconut. Then I read at the melting temp and was like ooooh. I took a tablespoon straight cause I have tough insides. haha and it wasn't all that great tasting but it didn't kill me. YET!

Not many beverages I drink hot (actually any) so that would be a no. I've heard cooking eggs in it so I'll try that tomorrow. I don't know if I'd like coconut flavored eggs. It's not strong but it scares me.

          Re: Coconut Oil

I have coconut oil - organic and unrefined - just about every day. The Chocolate Bark was an excellent recommendation for it, and this can be made as a great 7-total-carb (or 3 net) snack with:

          5 T coconut oil
2 T unsweetened cocoa (6 carbs, 4 of which are fiber if you use the Hershey "Special Dark" blend)
          1 packet Splenda

Mix together in a disposable mini aluminum tin, and freeze. Once you are in and out of the shower, it's ready for you!

I saw this recipe on the Coconut Diet site earlier this year, and when I gave it a shot, I could hardly believe it! Since then, I've made it my own by adding 2 T of powdered peanut butter and a splash of heavy cream for an extra 4 total carbs - it makes a great Peanut Butter "Fudge" Bark!

Of course, Chocolate Bark is for after Induction!

Thanks for posting that recipe, Sheila, as well as your adaptation suggestion
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

              Re: Coconut Oil

Thank you! I will have to try it out when I get some unsweetened cocoa. That's something I always forget when I go to the store.

I just need a white chocolate version. lol *dreams* I'm not so much of a dark chocolate eater but I'll try it.
