    Re: Sick of being strong.

HEy Jacqui, I was thinking about what you said about availability. Can you order books by American authors online and have them shipped to you? If you can't and would like someone to mail you a book it is easily done my friend. But check this out first. Go to a book selling website (like ebay or Amazon, chapters, etc) and put in this guys name. His name is George Stella and he has two cook books out. One is called "Living Low Carb" and the other one is called "Eating Stella Style". My favorite one is Living Low Carb, but the other one is awesome as well. The one zi like has recipes for thinks like bbq sauce and soy flour muffins (rung 6 on Atkins) and thinks like crepes (induction friendly) and there is a recipe for onion rings and breakfast ideas and pizza made with soy flour crust and all kinds of stuff that are really tastey and low carb.

I noticed in youe previous post that you are on extended induction. I stayed on induction for a month and my taste buds got very bored as well. I know everyone seems to say this and induction people get kind of freaked out about it, but try moving up the rungs of OWL. I know it doesn't make sense. You may ask yourself how can I lose weight if I am eating more carbs and things with more natural sugar in them? Well, I'm not exactly sure why it works but it does.

At the end of February this year I had stalled out and the scale hadn't moves. The first month I was on Atkins I had lost about 30 lbs and then it stopped for a full month. I was frustrated and hated that I was not eating some of the low carb foods I loved because I was afraid I would stall even worse. But some great ladies on here gave me some very valuable advice. So I made a goal for myself for the month of march and called it my own March madness challenge. The point of the challenge was that I needed to have faith in the Atkins aproach even if I didn't see anyresults right away. So these are the things that I did. I drank 64oz of water a day (most days ) I exercised at least 5 times a week for about 45 minutes. I recorded every morsel of food that I ate in a program called fitday for the first fw weeks. (after I got the hang of how much to eat I stopped) I ate as close to my Basal Metabolic Rate as I could to about 200-300 calories above that number. Your BMR is the number of calories your body needs to stay perform all of it's functions if you slept all day long and didn't move. Mine is about 1900 calories so I ate as close to 2100 calories a day as I could. (sometimes it was hard to eat that much believe it or not!) I took my measurements and did so every saturday. Today is the last day of my challenge and if you'd like to see my results go to my journal I will post them there. But I guess the point of this really long post is to give you some ideas. When the going gets tough the tough get going. Figure out what you can do, that keeps you on a path towards your goal. No matter what the scale is saying. And make it something you can live with. If you had diabetes and had to eat a lower sugar diet what kinds of foods would you find where you live? Get creative, go to pharmacies and ask the drugest for Ideas on where to get sugar free diabetic foods. Many things like syrup for diabetics isn't available at grocery stores, so ask about them elsewhere. There is also sooooo many low carb recipes on line that can keep you satisfied. Like low carb ketchup for dipping those onion rings in I mentioned above! And low carb crepes for that syrup! Go to the recipe forum on this board for some member tested foods as well!

Jacqui, I know it is tough going some times and believe me I am not a woman made of willpower. But when you think of the alternative, there really is no choice. Unless you want to gain back 6 kilos.......which I am sure you don't want to do. So have faith in the science of Atkins and listen to your body as you add back foods (slowly) to see if they cause you to have cravings or reactions that aren't good. Kick up the exercise. Move your body, that is all it takes. Walking, swimming, riding a bike, anything that you can do and as long as there a kilometers of road out your front door you don't need a gym membership. And if there are no roads then hills are better! LOL Drink your water, take your vitamins, get good sleep and make your health a priority. A year from now you will be a lot further along than if you quit or give up and you'll kick yourself for not riding the momentum you've built up if you do quit or cheat.

Oh, just to let you know how crazy I am, this morning my one year old son was trying to feed me his oatmeal, so i let him put it in my mouth and I had a napkin in my hand under his highchair tray. When he'd give me a bite, I'd spit it out and wipe my tounge off where he couldn't see what I was doing and then say *peek a boo* and make him laugh when I popped my head up. He has no idea that his cereal is death to mommy right now! LOL SO just step away from the bunnies and eat some strawberries with whipped cream instead! Have a lovely easter and enjoy your dinner.

after almost 5 months on Atkins and over 63 lbs down! Watch for updates!

      Re: Sick of being strong.

Thanks hubbysgirl. I enjoyed your message and you were very helpful.Yes i can get hold of those books. We just have different products as in food available here.Sadly our sodas are not made with splenda here and only aspartine. Most of our diet products are made with aspartine, but you can buy splenda and put it in things.
People on this forum have been very supportive and suggested a few times to go off ongoing induction and i have a couple of times decided to do it, and then read atkins and he says it will slow weight loss and then i get confused and stick with ongoing induction...however i definetly think i am going to take the leap as scary as that is..lol...I was thinking today that even though its only been six kilos in three months, it could then be 12 kilos in total in another three months and then another six months it could then be 24 kilos and that would be wonderful. The truth is it took me 35 years to get to this weight so its not going to get off overnight.Just hard when people here like yourself lose such a lot compared to me, but i have to get past that and just accept its not going to be easy for me and i think that has to do with being on two of the meds he says slows weight down.I cant go off them yet so i just have to push on and get on with it.I dont have a choise.
Your messages have always been so supportive and i thank you very much.I will look into those books and hopefully they have ingredients that we do.

No problem Jacqui! You deserve to be healthy and strong and all of the effort that it takes to get to your goal is worth it, so keep going. WTG on all of your successes so far! I'll be looking for your progress. Do you have a journal? Where do you usually hang out?

          Re: Sick of being strong.

When the temptations get really, really bad, I lie to myself.

I walk past the chocolate bunnies, Italian bread, etc., grit my teeth, and tell myself that someday I'll have that again, just not right now. I tell my inner brat, who is bawling away, who wants instant gratification, that she can have a chocolate bar when I reach my goal weight.

          It's a lie.
But some part of my brain believes it, and I can resist the temptation for that day.

Then I have a legal treat. So far, works for me.

            Re: Sick of being strong.

Hi lamby-pie, I have done that too..it really does work...i say to myself"jacqui its not going anywhere, its not like you wont taste it again one day so move on"...it worked very well and will again...
I thought i would fee horrible for cheating but infact i am glad i did it..reason being it was becoming obsessive and now that i had what i wanted, i feel strong again.I didnt go nuts which pleased me, but had a bit of a few things i liked, ate them slowly and then moved on.This is a first for me.It shows me that this is the way of life i want.I had thought many times to give up as the weight loss is so slow and induction is hard, but all the doubt has left me and i am ready to go my next three months and further on.

Are you having trouble getting a DANDR? I ordered one from collins online -- but they said they had to wait for it to comeinto stock. So in the meantime I got one from a local bookshop. I tried to cancel my online order but they just didnt seem to get the email . So now I HAVE TWO COPIES! I am quite happy to send you one of mine for what it cost me ( i will pay the postage ) if you like.

                  Re: Sick of being strong.

the good news is Jacqui .. you can get sugar free maple syrup here ! Its in the supermarket (coles) with the regular maple syrups. You still need to count the carbs though! I use it on my induction friendly "pancakes" I use a about two teaspoons of sugar free maple syrup mixed with some melted butter , splenda and some cinnamon. Even that amount of maple syrup gives it a great taste.
( can imagine Jacqui running off to the supermarket now!)

Soya flour would not be allowed till you reach the legumes rung of OWL, though.
You could try ground almonds once you are at the nuts rung of OWL.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Ok Jacqui .... Here is my pancake recipe. Its pretty good -- a little eggy and you need to use your imagination a bit but still terrific.

                            Pancakes

                            2 extra large eggs
                            1/4 cup whipping cream
                            1 pack splenda
                            dash of cinnamon

Beat this all together ... I also add a teaspoon of psyllium husk for fibre and it improves the texture of the pancakes
Fry in melted butter as you would normal pancakes..

The Sugar Free maple Syrup i have is made by "queen" the same people that make vanilla essences and food colours etc. Make sure you count the carbs etc.

                            eat up!

                                Re: Sick of being strong.

Pysillium husk is basically pure fibre that is not digested but adds bulk and helps clean out your digestive tract. It is allowed on induction, as it is not digested by the body it cannot contribute any carbs. It is basically what metamucil is made out of. you can buy it at supermarkets in the health food aisles and is much cheaper than metamucil ( which you can also use but make sure you get the one without sugar)Psyilluim husk is better as you can add it to recipes for added fibre or sprinkle it on salads ( although i dont think that would be very appetising!) I add it to my mock danish -- it makes it a little more cake like. To help with regularity you can mix a tablespoon of husk in a big glass of water and drink. It goes a bit like wallpaper paste ( and tastes a bit that way too ) but it is not too bad. you may need to adjust the dosage until you get the desired results. Flax meal is also good for fibre but you need to count the carbs ( about 1 carb per tablespoon)it is allowed on induction. I mix a tablespoon of flaxmeal with a tablespoon of water , spread it out on baking paper and microwave it for 2 minutes. You can also a a bit of splenda and cinnamon if you like. This makes a nice crisp nutty wafer.Flax is also a good source of Omega 3 oil.
                                Cheers
