  • Sore feet!!

    Hi,
I have been exercising and walking alot but i am having problems with my feet.

I have good fitting joggers and have put a padded sole lining in the jogger for softer support but i have developed two painful lumps on the soles of my feet from an area i think had extra pressure on while walking.

I think due to the weight i carry that it has put pressure in areas of my feet, but these lumps are painful to touch. They feel like hard lumps going under the skin surface and are so painful. Its actually affecting my walking abilities and i cant walk as far as i usually go.

Does anyone have this and know how to fix it and in the meantime is there any exercises i can do that doesnt put pressure on my feet.

    Re: Sore feet!!

Hey Jaks40, have you considered water areobics or swimming? I can't wait till the water warms up enough to go swimming! I have hill spurs on both of my feet so I know what its like not to be able to walk like you would want to. I also had this other problem with my feet that I can't pronounce or spell, lol. The foot doc put cortisone shots in my foot and its been better for a long time now so if you keep having problems you might want to have it checked out so you don't have to keep suffering with it. Good luck to you and I hope your feet get better soon!

Hi Brenda, water sports is a great idea. However we are approaching winter and our heated pools are on the other side of town and i dont have a car.Great idea though.

How brave are you to have cortisone injections in the foot. Your pain must have been huge.Mine only hurt when i walk on them..lol...I forgot to mention that i am allergic to pain..lol..the thought of those needles is enough to make me want to pass out...I having been reading up on calouses and planter warts...however plantar warts have a black mark and there is no mark on these...can calouses be this painful?

Anyway thanks for the swimming idea...might try and work something out there.Maybe there is a train that goes there. If you want something bad enough you do what you have to do.

        Jacqui:

It could be a corn or callus. These don't have to necessarily be treated, unless they are painful (which, you say they are). Also, a Dr. would x-ray them to be certain that they aren't caused by warts, cysts, or another foot deformity. Also, it's recommended that a Dr. definitely check them out if you have diabetes or any other condition that would cause you to have poor circulation in your feet.

Treatment would be (assuming that it's a corn) the Dr. shaving it off with a scalpel, followed by (most likely) antibiotic ointment to prevent infection.

To eliminate them, you would have to stop the source of friction (I know you don't want to stop exercising!).

Also, you can wear looser-fitting shoes until they go away. Can you wiggle your toes? If you can't, the shoes may be too tight. You could moisturize, best after bath, in order to soften the skin, or you could use a pumice stone to help slough off some of the skin. HOWEVER, do NOT slough off skin or attempt to shave off the callus if you have diabetes or circulation problem (you would be more prone to infection).

I don't blame you about the needles: I do my level-best to avoid needles of all kinds. I even make my husband mend his own jeans

Hope this helped, even if just a little

Hi Juli, that did help...i deep down know i have to go to the doctor but the thought of him using a scalpel and probably freezing it off freaks me....and this coming from a woman who gave birth to a 11.25 lb baby with no pain relief...lol...you would think i could handle any pain after that...lol.

I had a giggle reading your remark about your husbands jeans..just what i needed today..

The procedure itself seems icky (yes, that's a technical term), but it's just dead skin, essentially. Yes, it hurts when you press on it, but that's because of the layers beneath it. I dont' believe you will feel much of anything when he shaves, because he's not going to go that deep.

And I totally get where you're coming from: I did natural childbirth, twice, both 9-pound babies (tiny things compared to yours!), but stay away from me with needles. I was petrified of the needles or prospect of needles, so I never even talked about epidurals.

                  Hi Jacqui

I would get the lumps under your feet looked at by a doctor to diagnose what the problem is. I have had papilomas(plantar warts ) under my feet and they are very painful . The Black dots in them dont always show ! I have had mine frozen -- this hurt A LOT ( and i have had cortisone injections into my shoulder joint and the freezing hurt a lot more that that!) the freezing didnt work - Just gave me major pain all the way up my leg.. in the end I got my GP to give me a prescription for SALICYLIC ACID and that got rid of it quickly and painlessly ( just dab it on with a cotton bud)and eventually it dropped out . But first get it properly diagnosed. In the meantime you could excercise without putting too much pressure on your feet by riding an excercise bike .If you dont have one you can either hire one or ask around your family and friends to see if you can borrow one( there are many excercise bikes around that are only being used as clothes racks!!!)
                  hope this is some help!

                    Re: Sore feet!!

thanks donna. I like the idea of dabbing salicylic acid on them, than have it frozen off.You sound like you have had a very painful time with yours.I will definetly go to the doctor and then if he says its plantar warts do the salicylic acid thing.

Exercise bike is a great idea....thats hardly any pressure on the feet..thank you

In the meantime, until you can get to the doc's, visit your local pharmacy/drugstore. You should be able to buy corn/callus rings, or molefoam. All of these items are made of shock-absorbent foam that can be cut to size. One side of the foam is sticky, and sticks right to your dry foot. These can be placed wherever you need them. I use the molefoam for blisters and it's a lifesaver!

                        Re: Sore feet!!

Hi again Jacqui... Salicylic Acid is the active ingredient in most over the counter wart treatments - so you doctor may recommend that . However, from my experience its not strong enough . Best if you get the doc to write you a script fo something stronger that the chemist wil brew up for you. First make sure that you get your problem properly diagnosed. My 8 year old niece has two really nasty plantar warts( one under each foot) and she can hardly walk. They are treating hers with an over the counter WARTNER treatment but its taking forever and is very painful. I recommended that they try the Salicylic acid too.

Hey jaks40, I see you got a lot of good advice today. Lol, I know what you mean about not liking the needles, and no I wasn't brave about it, I'm ashamed to say. The first time I went to the foot dr. I chickened out and wouldn't have the shot. I walked around another whole year in pain before I got that shot! Let me tell you it was not as bad as you would think, if I ever get in pain like that again I will go back for another shot, its not half as bad as not hardly being able to walk. Hope you find out what your problem is! Good luck to you!

From someone with chronic foot pain.. have Diabetic Neruopathy (spell check) (causes bad muscle cramps in my feet and legs) And degenerative arithtis in both ankles (explains the horrible pain when I move my feet) and chronic tedonitis in my right foot. He tells me I'll never wear heels again, and cute shoes are probably out of the question because I have to wear braces on both feet now.

I feel bad for anyone with foot pain. As for the cortisone You are one brave soul!! I used to get them a long time ago, and come to find out diabetics aint even supposed to have them.
I sure hope you feel better and I wish I had some good advice for you. I will keep an eye on this post for sure and see if anyone has more advice. Lord knows I can sure use it.
                              Good luck!!
