I am new to this board but I felt compelled to post bc I am a Social Worker in a Dialysis facility - I have worked in dialysis for over 6 years and I have never seen anyone started on dialysis after being on Atkins. Never. The primary causes of renal failure (chronic - as in they are never going to work again) is diabetes and hypertension as well as genetic predisposition to polycystic kidney disease and the like. So if you are over weight there is a good chance that diabetes and HTN could be in your future but THAT would be what caused your kidney failure. Good luck in whatever you do
