  • Other Aussies Eating Bacon?

As u know, I am in Australia, and using FitDay, I am having trouble finding the description of bacon I'm eating.

Over here, they're called Middle Rashers of Bacon...
    they're about 10 inches long...
lots of fat plus bacon plus rind...
and thin, weighing 1.5 oz raw.

The only thing I can find at FitDay somewhat similar in name or description is

    pork, cured, bacon, raw
and the only two weights for that are
1 thick slice, packed 12/1b and
    3 medium slices, packed 20/lb.

Do any Aussies know the calories/fat etc. of the sort I described we eat, or do any people at all know what I should be clicking on at FitDay. Hope you understand what I mean Thankyou.

P.S. Also, how do I tell if they have nitrates?

Is there any info on the pack? If so use that info to make a custom food entry on fitday.com.

Or if you dont buy it in a pack maybe you can have a look next time you are in a supermarket and make a note of the nutrition info of a similar product and make it into a custom food

sounds similar to north american bacon (aside from the rind), maybe this will help http://www.calorieking.com/foods/cal...5PWJhY29u.html

it goes by slice, but also has the approx weight.

Thanks for replying Elizellen - I buy it from the deli department of a supermarket where I choose how much I want and the girl wraps it up etc., so no info available, but I could look in the fridge section and look at packeted bacon to guess the approximate info. I prefer it fresh, rather than packaged, as I think the fresh has less salt. I've always "thought" that re fresh meat versus packaged.

That's an excellent link, Sadie - I had a quick look now but have to go out, so will look into it more when I get home. Thankyou!!

I imagine there will be some nutrition info on label of the packing of the bacon, so it might be worth asking the serving staff if they can let you see the packaging they have unwrapped from the meat or giving you a contact address/phone number for the manufacturer. Someone somewhere will have the info!!

                HI Aussie gal ,
I am pretty sure they all have nitrates ( or they would be marked "Nitrate Free") I have checked through the prepackaged section in the supermarket and they are pretty much all the same. The Deli staff should be able to give you the info on any of the products they sell.
                cheers
