  • Baon, Eggs, Low Carb bread - Oh My!

I have been doing Atkins I think-for several days now. I found low carb bread that has 4 grams of carbs in it, and have been eating aprroximately 2to 3 slices along with bacon and eggs and some cream in my decaf. I have not wanted anything else! I am not going beyond the 20 carbs a day. Is this okay?

Slooknoo, you can only eat what is on the legal food for induction list whilst on induction. Have you seen the afforementioned list? If not take a look at the link to the FAQ section at the top of the page

The rules of induction in the book are to eat only from the list of foods on the legal food list. I'm afraid to say that low carb bread does not appear on that list.

Ditto what Rich says... also, if you're only eating LC bread, eggs and bacon you're missing your veggies. These are very important to the programme and your carbs (within 20g in induction) should come mostly from these. You should be eating three cups a day: two cups of salad veggies and one cup of "other" veggies, from the lists. You need those vits and mins!

I'd urge you to get hold of a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), 2002 edition. That's the one this board goes by and was the last one Dr Atkins wrote from beginning to end.
Don't forget to drink masses of water, too!

If it's not in your book, it's not allowed. Low Carb bread does not show up until the Grains level my friend. You are doing your own version of Low Carbin' which is not good! Take a look at these again.

Re: Baon, Eggs, Low Carb bread - Oh My!

To check when according to the book you can use the lowcarb bread (or any other processed foods) you need to look at the actual ingredients.
If it contains only food listed on the allowed list it is OK for induciton - if it contains milk products then it would not be ok till you reach OWL first rung (dairy), if it contains nuts or seeds then it would be OK on the nuts/seeds rung of OWL and so on.
So if your bread contains grains - wheat/oats/rice/etc it would not be 'legal' till the last rung of OWL.

You can find recipes for making legal 'bread-like' foods, like revolution rolls and wraps here on the 14-day induciton forum, or if you are having constipation problems you can add a tablespoon of wheat bran or ground linseeds (flax) so could make some flax muffins or bread that would be induction-legal.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I get it a Whole Foods. It is the whole foods brand. However, Pepperidge Farms makes one that has 5 grams, and there is Janets low carb bread that contains 3. Enjoy!
