Has anyone had sucess bulking up while on Atkins?

  • Has anyone had sucess bulking up while on Atkins?

    I plan to drop to 210 and then bulk up and gain about 10-15 pounds of muscle. The problem is that to gain serious muscle you have to take in more calories than you burn..so I was wondering if it would be possible on Atkins.







    Starting Weight: 307-310
    Current Weight: 220
    Short Term Goal Weight: 225 by May 1st (met)
    Long Term Goal: 215 pounds by June 12th (almost there!)

    My husband lost 65 lbs on the atkins and then gained 15 lbs of muscle just by staying on the plan and working out with weights.

      If 210 is your goal weight, you will be in maintenance by then, and will have added back all of the OWL foods. You will be able to adjust your bulking menu from that? I would imagine you shouldn't have a problem even as you are going thru OWL. I have always read that most bodybuilders follow a fairly low carb plan when 'cutting' and trying to lose bodyfat, so I don't see how it would be an issue for you? Is there a specific plan you are following?

      Atkins maintenance is a varied well balanced diet, what foods is it you are concerned that you wont be eating?

        I was more concerned that I would keep losing weight..then again, I've been in extended induction.

          I would think that this would be the prefect plan for what you want to achieve. Go through the rungs now and vary your diet to learn what you can and cannot eat. Once you are at goal and on maintenance you can add calories to fit your needs. I do not suggest getting to goal by staying on induction. I think it is super important to start incorporating new foods now to make transitioning into your gain weight mode easier.
