My husband and I went on atkins about 1 1/2 years ago and both lost a good amount of weight. Then a dr suggested we try cutting calories and we did that for a good while. He lost quite a bit more than me and is about 5 lbs from his goal weight. He has been trying to increase the amount of calories he eats and cannot seem to without gaining weight. I am a little worried he messed with his metabolism eating so little for so long. I started back on atkins a few weeks ago and he was considering doing the same. Would he need to go ahead and do 2 weeks of induction or begin at a higher stage?

Re: Question about my DH
Eschli, therein lies the problem with low calorie diets. The only reason it works is because it is low calorie. It has nothing to do with his metabolism...it is what it is. The problem is that whenever he tries to go back to eating higher calorie, he is GOING to gain weight.
As with ANY weight loss plan, when you return to the eating habits that got you fat to begin with, YOU WILL GET FAT AGAIN. It has to be a lifestyle change. The beauty of Atkins, when done right, is that it is a plan I can live with for the rest of my life. A low calorie, low-fat diet would be a miserable existance IMO.~Joy

Re: Question about my DH
I would think he would need to do a 2 week induction. It will detox him and get rid of any cravings he might have. And being closer to goal, I wouldn't think he'd lose too much by being on induction for weeks. But after the 2 weeks are up he will definitely want to start climing the carb ladder to get ready for premaintenance.
