  • I'm new here!

Well after weeks of lurking on this board and loving it, I have decided to join! I have really enjoyed everything I have found on here so far and it has been such a help for me. So let me tell you a little bit about my self. I am a 26 and a mother of 2. I stay at home and watch my little ones. I have been over weight since I was 3 and my WHOLE entile family is overweight. There have been 5 gastric bypasses in my family and I do not want to go there. I began this way of eating March 11, 2007. I have been on induction the whole time and I have lost 18 lbs with 45 to go. I am so happy about that! I am thinking about moving on to OWL but I am a little nervous about it. The weight has be coming off nicely right now (with a stall here and there) and I am afraid to move on from the comfort of the strict induction phase because I don't want to stall or gain weight. In the past I had done South Beach, and Phase 2 is always where I lose my way. I am also a little confused about how to move up the rungs. When I move to the veggie rung do I stay there 1 week only and add only the 5 carbs or do I stay there untill I have added/ tried all the veggies I want and have gotten up to my carb level? I Guess my question is how long do you stay on a rung and how many carbs do you add per rung? I really want to make sure I have all the kinks worked out before I take the big jump. Thanks for your help!

Hi Micalizzids: Welcome! Make sure you have a look around this huge place as there's tons of info available.
As for moving on to OWL, it's generally the next step to firing up your metabolism to lose more...so don't be afraid!
Why don't you join the veggie challenge that's starting on Monday? It's for 7 days and the challenge is to eat your net carbs that we're supposed to, depending on where we're at (induction, OWL and whichever rung, etc).
There's a site called FitDay where you set up a free account and then plug in all the foods you're eating and it'll tell you the carb count, as well as the counts for protein and fat, calories etc. An invaluable tool! Here's the link to the challenge so you can check it out:
    Veggie Challenge

To get to FitDay it's just www.fitday.com

Check out the OWL forum too~~lots of help there!
Have a great day, and I hope to see you on the Board~~

        Re: I'm new here!

There really isn't that big a difference between induction and owl...nothing is introduced too quickly, you have a few more veggie choices for starters, certainly nothing radical, and you call all the shots.

Induction provides the basics and a solid foundation for all the stages of Atkins, which aren't to be feared at all, but to be happily embraced.

Owl does give you an opportunity to really examine
the line between enough and excess but you remain the
        boss.

          Re: I'm new here!

Welcome to the boards!!! Looking forward to seeing you transform yourself into a healthier person.

There's all kinds of stickies in the On-going WeightLoss (OWL)forum.

Here's one that introduces you to OWL: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5211

And here's the link to the OWL forum in general:

          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=38

My suggestion would be to read all the stickies in that forum because they are full of great information!!!! If you still have questions, any many people do, feel free to post them. We'll help ya out!

Here's a link to a sticky that not2late wrote about deciding whether or not to move on to OWL or stay in extended induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5780

          Hope that helps!

          Again, welcome to ADBB!!!
