  • weight goals for yourself, made by you, noone else...

Has anyone else had people butting in on their weight goals?

I started Atkins because I wanted to be healthy, and learn how to eat diferent. I wanted control. I made a weight goal, 130. That is what I wanted, that was MY goal. I am doing this for me after all, right? Haha.

First, my mother decided that I would have too much trouble maintaining that, as I have had trouble with my weight forever. I gave in and compromised for 135. Then my husband and sister in law said that would make me way too small for my frame. Puhleaze, I am 5 feet tall. So after much conversation, I once again compromised for 140. Then, as I began to loose and it be noticable, my husband once again said I shouldnt go under 150. Once again I compromised, and said 145. Now, he is back on me not getting under 150. I should add that believe it or not, I am 33.

So, have any of you had people tell you what you should weigh? Has this been a conflict for anyone else and their spouse?

    Thanks.

I have people that are shocked when I say "only 30 more pounds to lose" I think because I look smaller than I actually am, or my weight is distributed pretty evenly...30 pounds on me looks equal to somebody else losing 10 pounds. Nobody has really tried to change my goal...although I've changed my goal from 180, to 170, now to 160.

But I still hate it when they say "oh if you lose any more weight you'll look too skinny". Obviously they've never seen me naked.

ha ha ha!! i agree with julie. i told a friend at work today i have 25 left to go and she looked horrified. i am only 5'7",,,,the 150ish range looks pretty darn thin on me so under 150 is boney but over say 155 i FEEL awkward.

and i always say "well you haven't seen me NAKED" which ...believe me,,,,shuts them up!

my fiance, bless his darling heart....met me when i weighed 155....all the way up to 193 he NEVER said a word.....and all he can do every day is tell me how beautiful and sexy he thinks i am....THAT is a SMART MAN!

Only 5'7"? 5'7" is tall to me. I'm just over 5'2". As for weight goal, I am thinking of 125, though I'm not sure.

          Hi,
There is nothing wrong with a goal of 130 on a five foot tall woman. At that height and weight (according to a weight/BMI chart on another site) you would still be considered "Overweight". I am 5"2' and my personal goal is 160 which I would still be overweight. I'd say to get down to a weight that makes YOU happy.
I am kinda lucky in that my BF has a very odd standard for "skinny." We met when I was 199 and he thought I was skinny LMAO. I was nowhere near skinny!!! 160 I will still be pretty plump but I'll take it!

I cant even put a goal on myself, when i was last slim, i was nothing but a slick of a kid, theres no way i can expect to get to how i was at 12 or 13!! So when people say "how much have you got left to lose!i turn it and i ask them! but i have noted that theyre all too polite to tell the truth! lol

Those charts just dont make sense to me, we all have different frames... to look at - everyone says im not obese, i just have a 10-20 pounds to lose, the charts say im severely obese... and that i should be losing 100 + nah i dont think so, even im not gonna work to that one!

When i can go to aerobics and i dont feel my stomach movin, thats when ill be happy, lol.

I agree with Patty... I think it should be the weight where YOU are happy.. I wouldn't go below the amount that is considered healthy though..what ever it is on the charts..

I've never told anyone how much I weigh or what my goal is...except here. Even my dh doesn't know my weight and he's doing this woe with me! Now that I've heard your experience I won't tell anyone. It's none of their business!!

Some people are just silly that way hon. YOU are doing the for YOU. I always ignore people when they try to butt in, so to speak. Hey Scooter, you've done really good, want a piece of cake?? Hello.....NO!! But you've lost the weight, give yourself a reward dude. Um....no thanks, I appreciate the offer, but I'd rather you didn't try to kill me, thank you.

As I said....YOU know what feels comfortable on YOU. Go for it. I'm just wanting to hit one-derland. After that, who knows...I know it will be hard, but I welcome the challenge....

You go girl! Just nod your head when they talk and think how silly they all sound!!

Scooter my mom does that... How about a bake chicken and fries...or pasta, or just a piece of garlic bread...you dont eat enough.

I am lucky my DH always tells me Im beautiful and look fine, I tell him that is only because he loves me. I carry my weight pretty well, but my goal is to definately lose the love handles and get back to a size 10. I felt good/lucked good and was comfy in my body. I feel sluggished when I go up sizes from there.

The cameras lens is always clear, but the ones you luv may have goggles on.

And - you know - 150 on me doesn't look like 150 on someone else! I told a friend that I wanted to lose 15 more pounds - she freaked! "Do we need to do an 'intervention'?".
But that's where I need to be to wear the 10s, you know? And - yet - someone else at 135 is in 4/6s.

Gotta go with what is right - FOR YOU!!

I'm with Sheepie on this one: no one knows my weight and goals...well, except for you thousand or so people on this board. But you're not telling, right?
