Questions Business Trip & Fibersure, Fiber, Atkins Products, Message Board ?

I am female, 41, current weight 253, lost 7, induction day 9, want to stay in induction phase for a long time, business trip, 2 days, meals provided, should I………purchase shakes and bars and eat them? 3 shakes a day and 3 bars a day and if by chance there is any meat (highly doubtful) I will eat that and just drink water………..I want to continue to loose weight, not stall……….

I was on Atkins last year, but went off cause of constipation….bla bla………..I want this time to work………I purchased fibersure….3 teaspoons each day = 15 g fiber…….on day 3 nothing is happening……….what can I do and does this stall your weight loss?

What is the best source of fiber with no carbs? Also, I used bars last time as a way to get my fiber and it worked perfect…..except I stalled…………

Why does a sugar free package say no carbs and then if I eat the product I do not loose weight? Example: Nips –caramel- sugar free- zero net carbs.

GNC Psyllium Seed Husk 500mg campsules: Does this have carbs? What do I count for my daily intake of carbs? Does this work?

How do I get the weight loss table at the bottom of my message?

    Thank you……….Chris in Minnesota

    Hiya Chris and Welcome!

I would certainly ditch the bars and shakes. They stall loads and loads of people despite what they claim. The ingredients are NOT induction friendly mainly. Atkins Nutritionals are more interested in making a profit than in your good health so they promote the bars far more than Dr Atkins ever did. He used to say they're for use in emergencies.

Stick to 'real foods' as much as you can. Eat your full induction ration (3 cups per day) of high fibre veggies for the constipation or take psyllium or ground flax (with plenty of water). You are allowed a tablespoon or two of flax in induction if you need it... or a bit more if it takes that 'get things moving' but it's important to drink lots with it, as it could otherwise have the opposite effect.

Your best plan is to take legal foods with you on your trip, to munch on if the food provided isn't legal. Hard boiled eggs, cheese, veggie sticks, tuna... etc. A cooler bag is incredibly useful.

I'd get hold of a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition) if you haven't already got it. It's really important to understand the science behind this way of eating. You'll find it'll answer all your questions.

Let us know how you get on! We're with you 100%!

I'm afraid I don't know much about the shakes, never having had one...but unfortunately, I've seen plenty of people on the board say that they stall too.

Re: Questions: Business Trip, Fibersure, Psyllium,Atkins Products?

Hi Chris - Wecome to the board. I am a 'travelling' female as well. I've lost 50 pounds now on Atkins and it has not been hard. However, it is VERY important that you stay away from the 'Frankenfoods' and eat what is on the list. If you do that - this will work for you. For my business trips, I pack food ahead of time to take with me (beef jerky, pork rinds, boiled eggs, cans of tuna and/or salmon, flax crackers I make myself, cut up veggies that keep for a few days (cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber - not cut up). I don't know where you are travelling but you can get the following, I'm sure:

Breakfast - eggs & some kind of meat and usually some veggies
Snack - one of the things you brought with you
Lunch - salad and meat (bring your own salad dressing or skip it). I find myself in places where they only serve sandwiches. I take 2 - take the stuff off of them and eat it. Put the bread aside. If people look at you strange, say "Oh I get a stomach problem when I eat wheat."
Snack - more of your own stuff
            Dinner - same as lunch

As for the constipation, if you take the flax everyday you shouldn't have a problem. (and you eat all your veggies!) Don't wait til you have a problem, just take the flax daily - it does help!

As for 'sugar free' anything.... Well, the best advise anyone on the board will give you is stay away from that stuff! It doesn't give you anything, it stalls most people, and it creates an insulin response in your body even though its sugar free (look at all the overweight Diet Coke (or whatever) drinkers out there)... Eat REAL food for a while and stay totally away from the candy, the bars, etc. It will change your life!

As a frequent traveller - I can sympathize with you that this does take a little more planning - however, I have found in the U.S. airports that there are loads of little take away salads and meats that you just buy and take with you on the plane, to your meetings, etc. Unfortunately we don't have that luxury in Europe so I have to pack EVERYTHING I want to eat with me - or buy it when I get to my destination. (my colleagues now ask me when picking me up at the airport "Do you need to stop by the store?" ) I've had to learn - it's MY LIFE - and I don't care what they think! If I'm going to control my weight it isn't going to be because I'm worried about their thoughts - it has to be because I'm worried about myself, my health, and the affect on my family and my life.

Good luck! We are all here for you!!!!

Re: Questions: Business Trip, Fibersure, Psyllium,Atkins Products?

I see others are having the same difficulties I did with the Atkin's nutrionals! They sure did look like they would solve all my problems at first (prepackaged, no prep work, taste great), but I gained weight on them (I overdid it).

I know Dr. Atkin's has a whole segment dedicated to his theory behind ketosis and no calorie counting, etc., but in my experience I've found that sticking to the induction phase pretty strictly (without the suppliments, bars, shakes) amounts to a very calorie restricted diet (the reason I believe we lose weight), and adding those shakes and bars in really adds up in the calorie department.

Stark, I've been on trips before and in situations where meals were provided, and I didn't hesitate to do my own thing in spite of it. You almost have to on any diet. However, I think if the choices are even remotely varied, you can find Atkin's friendly things to eat. For instance at a banquet there was a small salad bar and I ate hard boiled eggs, and at most restaurants you can find low-carb options. Unless they say "We're serving Snicker's bars and white bread" and that's it, then I'd bring my own food.

When eating out of town, I've found for the most part that I can stay on plan. Almost any meal/restaurant offers salad and some sort of meat. Unless they are serving pasta and bread only.

People with Celiac's disease wouldn't be able to eat that stuff either, so most places have options. Ask ahead of time. Take something with you just in case. Tuna fish comes in pouches now. Vegetables are almost always easily come by, no matter the scenario in the form of salad. Take the tuna with you as a protein source in case you need one. They can be kept in your briefcase.

Sounds like you are off to a GREAT start! Stay away from all the "frankenfoods" and you are much, much better off. Honestly, there is no reason at all anyone should have to buy any of those products....eat real meat, vegetables and fruit and you are 'doing atkins'.
