  • Is this ketosis??

This is day 14 for me and I am not weighing myself until I "feel" like I've lost some significant weight and by how my clothes are fitting. If I don't weigh myself then I won't be discouraged by the numbers. Anyway, not to get off topic but I feel horribly run down and lacking energy hardly could stand to walk to the bathroom. Last night I seriously thought I was gonna hack up my dinner. Plus I have a sickening sweet taste in my mouth when I drink water I really notice it.

    When will my energy return?

I can totally identify with you. I've had many of your same symptoms, fatigue, feeling run down, too tired to even stand up, etc. Are you taking mineral supplements such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium? They may help you feel better. That, and drinking water, and getting sufficient sodium. I do not know whether you are using fitday. If you religiously log everything you eat into fitday, you may discover that you have a vitamin or mineral deficiency that can be corrected.

About that bad taste you say you have in your mouth.... It sounds like you are heavily into ketosis. If that is happening, then you are burning fat.

I hope you feel better soon!

The tiredness should be passing by now and its definite that you are in ketosis with that description!!

Fitday is a wonderful thing to make sure your percentages are correct, you can also post menu's to make sure that your not doing anything to hinder you!!

I recommend weighing in tomorrow - its the end of your induction and it means you can go back to the book and see what your metabolic resistance is

How much do you have to lose?

I'm with the others - fitday is a godsend. You'll really be able to control your carb intake and also more importantly keep a track on the calories your eating. You'd be surprised how little calories you could be taking during induction and you really need to try and keep them up. I try to ensure I take between 1200-1600 per day. Somedays like today its a struggle to keep my cals up. I've only had 700 so far now. And I'm not hungry.
That might account to why your feeling so bad. Eating a bit more might make you feel better.
Good luck with the weigh in - I agree with the others, do it at the end of induction - weight and measurements.

          good luck

              Well I weighed myself...

and I was totally disappointed in the results 148.5! I really thought I would be around 140 just because of how I felt and the way my clothes felt. Now I wish I would have waited longer. I feel kinda down.

What kind of weight loss results should I expect now that I'm in my third week??

Tami, how much were you weighing before you started Induction? That might tell you something.

                  Re: Is this ketosis??

You are supposed to lose 10-15% of your goal weight on induction.

I started at 160.5 however, my TOM showed up a few days later so some of that was water weight..I'm guessing about 4-5 lbs. of it.

Actually, it's a percent of the total amount you want to lose, not of your goal weight. I thought is was 5% to 10%, but it may be 10% to 15%... but it is definitely of the amount to be lost, not your goal weight.

I'll try to find it in the book... maybe one of the veteran's will stop by verify the percent.

Well 12 pounds gone from a hoped-for loss of 46 is about a 25% loss which is excellent
Here is the chart from DANDR so you can work out your metabolic resistance to weightloss

Degree of Metabolic Resistance for Men

Pounds Lost in First 14 Days When Metabolic Resistance is high, average or low:

                          Pounds to Lose . . . . High . . . . Average . . . . Low

                          Less than 20 . . . . . . . 4 . . . . . . . 6. . . . . . . . 8

                          20-50 . . . . . . . . . . 6 . . . . . . . 9 . . . . . . . .12

                          Over 50 . . . . . . . . . 8 . . . . . . . 12 . . . . . . . 16

Degree of Metabolic Resistance for Women

Pounds Lost in First 14 Days When Metabolic Resistance is high, average or low:

                          Pounds to Lose . . . . High . . . . Average . . . . Low

                          Less than 20 . . . . . . . 2 . . . . . . 4 . . . . . . . 6

                          20-50 . . . . . . . . . . . 3 . . . . . . . 6 . . . . . . . . 9

                          Over 50 . . . . . . . . . 4 . . . . . . . 8 . . . . . . . 12

So I would guess you are a good loser with a low resistance to weightloss
Are you plannign on moving to OWL now or staying a couple of weeks longer on induction?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I'm planning on adding more in now...I don't want it to become stagnate so I'm trying out different recipes for my favorite foods..I have to self talk to myself sometimes to remind me that I will eat bread again someday or a pasta once in awhile perhaps...that I'm merely reintroducing foods slowly and I"m changing my eating habits for life, as I'm climbing the rungs...plus I'm not weighing myself again for awhile
