I'm not sure if this is the right answer, but according to where I am in the book, you're not supposed to undertake Atkins without medical supervision if you have any sort of kidney issues upfront.

    I'd talk to your doctor.

I get an occasional kidney infection for the similar reasons. As a result, I've found taking a cranberry vitamin supplement to help. Drinking the juices are nice, but the vitamin packs a bigger punch and provides more nutrients than the juice (and less carbs). I would suggest that you keep drinking your water (nothing else) and try some cranberry supplements. If the pain presists more than 2 days, call your doc and tell them what's happening. You may need to have an RX for the pain instead.

Best wishes for ya, and hope you feel better.

Another thing that you can try is Vitamin C tablets - it helps acidify the urine (which is what the cranberry juice was also doing). With patients, we recommend vit C 500mg twice a day for those that are prone to UTIs...

If your urine is cloudy/murky, if you're having pain when urinating, if you have a hard time starting/stopping.... definately contact your doctor.

please be very careful here! Anyone with kidney disease/kidney failure or any type of renal problems should not be doing Atkins or only under a doctors supervision. Please consult with your health care provider to be sure your kidneys are healthy!!!

I have this!!! I was having cramping pains around the abs and lower back. I actually went to the ER because of it. Come to find out I had a bladder infection! I had blood in my urine! So now I am taking antibiotics and I have no more pains. It was sure a relief!

              I hope this helps...

Yet, I have never seen or heard a single accuser provide a single example of a single case in which that happened. This is one of the many examples of untruths fashioned out of the whole cloth.

Fact: Too many people believe this untruth simply because it has been repeated so often that even intelligent health professionals assume it must have been reported somewhere. But the fact is that it has never been reported anywhere. I have yet to see someone produce a study for me to review, or even cite a specific case in which a protein-containing diet causes any form of kidney disorder.
The only remotely related phenomenon is the fact that when someone is already suffering from far-advanced kidney disease, it is difficult for that person's body to handle protein. But protein has nothing to do with the cause of the kidney problem.

Another good reason to make sure we have blood work done before embarking on a new way of eating.
