Hi, I haven't really seen anything on the forums addressing this issue, however I really have just been sticking to the induction section until now.
My cousin whom lives with me is interested in possibly trying the Atkins diet, but has some reservations due to his high blood pressure & cholesterol.
Recently our work sponsored a biometric testing site for our wellness program. His blood pressure came back as 142/94 which is early stage 1 hypertension. His total cholesterol is high at 255. His HDL is low at 37 and his LDL is very high at 199.
Would it be healthy for him to be on the Atkins diet? Would he have to start w/ veggies only until his numbers are lowered? Will he be able to just get by w/ a healthy diet or does he need to see a doctor for medication as well? Finally, if prescribed medication, will that effect whether he could do the Atkins diet?
Thanks in advance for any information. GO CATS!
