  • Low Carb Mission Tortillas!!!

I went to the grocery store and found some Mission Lo-Carb Tortillas. It says, 18 grams of carbs, 11 grams of fiber, net grams 7 carbs. I read the label carefully and saw no harmful sugars, corn starch or corn syrup, anything. Just wanted to know if any of you use them also? They're pretty good.

Can't add these until Rung 9, if I'm not mistaken, and I'm nowhere near that. Maybe someone else can help?

Mitzi is correct. What you may and may not eat depends on what is appropriate/acceptable for your phase of Atkins. So for people on Induction, foods that contain ingredients that aren't on the Induction Acceptable Foods list and/or don't comply with the Induction rules are not Induction 'friendly'.

People get into trouble about the legality of foods when they choose to extend their Induction phase past 14 days. On ADBB, we have a separate board for those people, called "Extended Induction". But "extended Induction" is not an Atkins Phase. All it means is that you choose to do Induction phase longer than 14 days: so you are still following the Induction rules and eat the foods on the Induction Acceptable Foods list in the specified Induction amounts.

If you are beyond the 14 days and you want to add variety to your meals, move to the On-Going Weight Loss Phase: you'll still lose weight and you'll have a greater variety of food while you lose.

I use the Buena Vida brand, they are whole wheat and have net 4 grams and taste good. If you ever tried the low carb wrap that subway had, it tasted funny to me, these are way better. I buy these at super Walmart. 1.93 for a pack of 8 or 10.

Sounds a great OWL rung 9 addition once you reach that level of OWL if your body can handle the wheat!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Re: Low Carb Mission Tortillas!!!

Just want to echo that they're not legal until Rung 9 of OWL. I use La Tortilla LC tortillas, in whole wheat, garlic herb, and rosemary olive oil. I haven't tried the Mission brand tortillas, but I did have another brand that tasted like sawdust, BLECHH!

A word of warning...be very observant about how these affect your body. I usually can't eat more than 2 a week. They cause a bit of bloating and gas, as well as some intestinal discomfort if I eat too many or eat them too often in a period of time. Whole grains give me no problems, but for some reason I have to be very careful with these tortillas.

              Re: Low Carb Mission Tortillas!!!

Forgive me for not being in the know. I'm extremely new to this forum and the advanced topics here. I thought as long as the food had no sugars at all, and extremely low carbs, that it was fine. I thought as long as you don't go over your daily carb gram limit and have no sugars, that it was OK. Is that wrong??? Also, they didn't bother my stomach or system at all. I guess I'll have to read a lot more. I don't even know what a RUNG is.

                Re: Low Carb Mission Tortillas!!!

You really need to read the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it sounds like all you're doing is eating low carb rather than following Atkins.

Theres an acceptable foods list that you can eat from during inductiom (first 14 days of your new way of eating), if its not on there, you cant eat it
                http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781

after that you go on to a ladder theres 9 steps on this ladder - most people in this forum refer to them as rungs, after induction you can move up these "rungs" and add more things into your diet, as the others said - you're eating from rung 9... you need to build your body up through the other rungs first before you get to the top.

heres the Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) ladder
                http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5516

Hope this helps - you really should read the book first!

*Emma* is absolutely right. Read the book. In fact, it should be a pre-requisite for anyone doing Atkins. It explains, in detail, how and why to do the plan.

                    Re: Low Carb Mission Tortillas!!!

I have to parrot the "read the book" statement. I looked back at some of your other posts and you've asked for expert opinions and such from experienced members and have asked for scientific explanations. Why not go DIRECTLY to the source and get all the information about HOW this diet works, WHY it works, and how to do it properly?? Directly from Dr. Atkins himself. It is imperative, however, that you get the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution copyright 2002. That is the most up to date version before Dr. A died and it is the version we go by on this board.

I've read it several times and go back to it time and again for reference. It's fascinating reading if you're interested in the scientific reasons why this plan works and how to do it right. I mean, you're investing a lot of time and effort in this, why not do it the right way that will get you the best results all the way around, right?
