  • Food Query

I'm having a bit of a dilemma over certain foods.

Am I allowed to eat anything as long as it doesn't add up to over 20g of carbs per day? For instance, I've found some natural yoghurt that's only 8g per pot. Am I therefore technically allowed a few of these if I don't eat any other carbs?

I'm losing weight at a great rate, whilst sorta following my own regime. I just want to know if it's the amount of carbs or the type of carbs that cause blood sugar spikes. i.e Does 3g of sugar cause a blood sugar spike or would a larger amount be required to make a difference?

    No.

you eat foods off the acceptable list and the acceptable list only, your carbs are made up from the veggies you eat, plus maybe mayo or eggs - other things like that.

Have you read DANDR? i'm gonna guess you havent, you really should buy the book!!

With regards to the sugar spikes, i wouldnt know, its been a long long time since i had sugar! you shouldnt have it on this WOE, use splenda instead

      Re: Food Query

I have read the book, and understand most of the theory behind it. However, by the same token, we should in theory be able to eat small amounts of foods on the acceptable lists as long as they don't cause a rise in blood sugar.

Has anyone here eaten anything not on the list any found that they didn't stall?

Well... we follow the book here, so I'm not sure you are going to get the answer you want. If you had really read the entire book, you would have the answers to your questions. There is a great deal of science behind the rungs. There is a certain order and certain amounts that things are to be added in. Review the book! Best wishes to you.

Probably as many people have found eating foods not on the allowed list make them stall as havent!! It is one of those YMMV (your mileage may vary) things.

If you are one of those lucky people with a high CCLL you could eat foods from the higher rungs during your first two weeks on Atkins and still lose weight - but how would you know this fact this early in your Atkins journey?

Following Induction rules then OWL in the order and amounts set out in DANDR will give your body the best chance at losing weight in the most efficient manner, so why mess with that?

The trouble with deciding to eat foods not on the allowed list during induction is that you might be one of those who would stall - and you risk messing up your induction or even making yourself assume Atkins doesnt work if you eat foods not allowed!!

Why not follow the rules to start with and see how you go?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

BTW if you follow Atkins as per the book you could include the yogurt as a regular menu item once you reach the dairy rung of OWL - only 4 weeks into the plan!!

I wouldn't veer from the course on this matter. I cheated a few times and it always resulted in zero weight lost or a small weight gain. You may still be experiencing weight loss if you are just starting because of the diruetic effect, but mark my words, if you continue to cheat it will catch up to you and you will stall.
