  • My BMR

Hi i posted earlier, and really trying to figure this all out, my BMR is 2081, so i need to eat at least that correct and go over by 200 calories but not more than that right. Just really trying to make better choices and healthier ones and really wanting to get this down pact. Now do you add any excercise with this or is this the number whether you are excercising or not, i usually am at about 2000, but there have been days im under that number, and not many days where i have seen like 2700 in a day.

    Re: My BMR

    Lisa,

Did you go on and use the Harris Benedict equation further down the page after finding your BMR? (click on the words Harris Benedict equation) It takes into account your level of activity and calculates what you need to maintain your weight at that activity level. There is also a place to click on that says something about what amount of calories you would need to lose weight. It is an explanation about reducing calories and talks about reducing that maintenance figure given by the Harris Benedict equation by 20% or so.

If you didn't look at all of this when you checked out that website before, try looking at it again and come back with any questions.

              Re: My BMR

The amount of calories you'd need to consume (based on age, gender, height, weight, and activity level) is 3225 if you want to MAINTAIN your weight. It is suggested that you not go under 1000 less than your caloric needs. So basically, an ideal caloric intake for you would be between 2225-2725. That's subtracting 500-1000 calories from your maintenance level. However, it's not always realistic that you'll be able to eat 2225 calories everyday! So what's most important is that you feed your hunger, and I would make sure to eat at least 1800 calories a day, 1500 and the VERY least. So while you might not always reach 2225, this sort of gives you some reassurance that you're doing an OK thing by eating more calories on your hungry days. By all means, eat if you are hungry!

No probs, Mitzi. I know I've got this one right. Just don't ask me how many calories are in a gram of carbohydrates.

                      Re: My BMR

Just one comment...if you or others are on induction, don't worry about calories so much. Granted, calories do count, but the main pupose of induction is to break cravings, train your body to burn fat, and get your body off the carbs. The natural effects of ketosis will naturally cause your appetite to decrease. Eating only until you are satisfied and not stuffing yourself or eating for emotional reasons should also bring your calories into the desired range.

So don't fret so much over the calories. There'll be a time for that once you move on and start thinking more about your food choices. For what it's worth, I tend to eat at my BMR....even when I was losing weight. If I ate a bit over my BMR, I tended to lose more. Exercise is important remember!
