  • Caramelizing Onions/Cabbage BAD???

Okay, don't laugh because I really don't know the answer.

Will cooking onions too long caramelize them and add extra carbs? And will overcooking cabbage caramelize the cabbage and add extra carbs?? And if so how many carbs, and should we avoid doing this?

    Patti,

No, it won't add more carbs if you do not add anything but oil or butter. "Caramelize" simply reduces the water content and intensifies the flavour but the oil or butter you use can add some calories, but no carbs.

Never think any question is too embarrassing, you wouldn't believe some of my own questions.

Thanks so much! I love fried onions and fried cabbage and would hate to have to give up making them that way !!!

Thanks for asking this question, Patti. I've wondered this myself, but never asked.
