  • About Low Carb Tortillas!

Hi All, i have a question. I could not find low carb tortilla at my grocery store. I found 'Mission carb balanced tortilla'. The nutrition facts read: Carbs-18g, Dietry Fibre- 11g.So net carbs is 7g. Is it fine to use these tortillas in the later stages that is in OWL or maintenance stage? I am scared that the tortilla might actually contain high carbs. Please let me know.

I've compared several brands that have low carb varieties of torillas. 7 net carbs is on the upper end. Lowest I've seen is 3. I can't remember the brand we bought but my wife (who is on maintenance) enjoys them occasionally and I did check the ingrediants at the time and saw nothing to be alarmed about. Just be sure to check the ingrediants and compare them with what is allowed on whatever phase you are at.

For Induction, grains (wheat, rice, barley, corn, rye, etc.) are not allowed. So if those tortillas contain ingredients that are not on the Induction Acceptable Foods List, they aren't allowed during Induction phase.

I use the garlic flavored low carb tortillas by The Tortilla Factory - they taste great!

          Re: About Low Carb Tortillas!

I agree, the La Tortilla ones are the best I've found. I REALLY love the Rosemary Olive Oil ones that they have...

WARNING: These are not legal until Rung 9 of OWL. Don't try to pull a fast one and eat one of these babies if you're not there yet. Oh yes, we will know.

Actually my real warning is watch how many of these you eat in a short time frame. I love the taste, but if I eat like, more than 3 of them in a 2 day period, it's, shall we say, rather uncomfortable in my intestines. It's somewhat strange because whole grains don't bother me one bit, but these LC tortillas can wreak havoc on my insides if I'm not careful.

My absolute favorite LC tortilla is MAMA LUPES'S....you will not know the difference at all...I promise my family can not tell...I use them in ALL my mexican favorite recipes!!! They taste and have the same texture as regular soft flour tortillas!!!

Thank you ALL for your replies. What i want to know is, is it fine to have the 'mission carb balanced tortillas' ? I fear it might have lot more net carbs than it mentions. I dont get any other brand that is low in carbs. I am scared eating it will spoil the entire cycle.

These are the best...actually one of those items introduced during the frankenfoods era that is still available and good for you!

Along with the WAIT until Rung (9) warning and "these have a ton of fiber" warning, I'll share my warning: I've found that they cause cravings for me if I eat them early in the day. I have no idea why, but they do. So I've adjusted and just eat them at dinner time!

You are asking about using a product made with flour that is NOT an induction-allowed food.
As others have said in this thread it is NOT a food you should eat on induction, no matter what the net carbs are, but can be experimented with once you have moved from induction to the OWL rung for which all its ingredients ARE allowed.
                  I noticed you wrote

AS others have said, they did have problems eating it once they reached the grains rung of OWL, so when you are at that stage and testing how your body responds to the flour products do keep an eye out for the problems described and learn from their experiences

                  Edited to add
Asiangirl, I am moving this post into the Main Atkins forum so as not to continue to confuse members who are on induction as described in DANDR. (I have had a couple of pms about it already!!)
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
