Thanks for reminding me of that. Until then I'll take your soy shake in mind adn who knows, I may like it enough to just keep using it when needed.

I also think that the majority of users on this board who are asking the questions are NOT the competition type, professional body builders either. So, answering a question to a person who 1) is NOT this type of person and 2) the majority of the audience reading the post is NOT this type of person is sort of irrelevant AND does a disservice to those who ARE reading it.

Dr. Atkins himself (whose plan we follow on this board) says that both weight training AND cardiovascular are requirements of his plan. MOST bodybuilding sites that I've seen, though they whine about it and try to do as little of it as possible, still say that both cardiovascular and resistance training are necessary. MOST bodybuilding sites that I've seen include a weekly training program that alternates resistance training AND cardiovascular training.

Re: Low carbohydrate - high protien shake

The recommendation that I have heard is for those doing weight resistance, is that your body needs a minimum of 15 grams of protein BEFORE the workout to fuel your muscles and another 15 grams of protein within one hour AFTER the workout to begin the process of rebuilding the muscles.

The protein needs at least one hour to digest, but a good alternative, if you cannot eat an hour before the workout, is to grab a RTD protein shake beforehand. That is what I do. I drink one of the Atkins RTD shakes on my way to the workout. I then get on the bike first to warm up before starting on the weights. That gives the shake about 30 minutes to digest. The drink has 15 grams of protein, only 2 net carbs, and 9 grams of fat. However, even though the shakes were once marked as acceptable for Induction (years ago) I would not drink it until you are in the OWL phase. I have found that for some, shakes and protein bars actually stall their weight loss.

        Hope this helps!
