  • Found this in Men's Health Magazine

Men's Health articles always stated: Eat low fat, whole grain, protein meals, with veggies 4-5 times a day. Now this is their "latest news."

    Why Some People Get Fat

We know it's tempting to say "Eat less and exercise more," and leave it at that.

We've said it plenty of times, and it will always be sensible advice.

But the truth is a little more complicated. Ever wonder why some guys gain weight just by looking at a brownie, while other guys can scarf down half a tray of them and not get fat?

Likewise, how some guys can lose weight fast and easy, while other guys struggle?

    Sound familiar?

Part of the answer is that different bodies handle sugar in different ways. Some bodies see a bottle of Dr Pepper coming down the hatch and produce a ton of insulin. Other bodies shrug it off.

Those guys who produce a lot of insulin are perfect candidates for a low-carb diet, like our own staffer David Schipper used.

We'll make it super-easy for you: Read Schipp's food diary. It's a funny, real-world look at weight loss.

This week a new study shows that low-carb is the way to go for many guys. But you won't find the experts saying that out loud because they think too many guys will load up on fatty meats. We at Men's Health don't think that's so bad, but that's for another posting, like this one by Adam Campbell.

(By the way, check out the great debate over milk on Adam's blog. If you like milk, keep drinking it. It's a great muscle-building, fat-fighting beverage.)

Anyway, the diet folks prefer terms like "low glycemic load."

That means: Don't eat bread, pasta, potatoes, watermelon, cake, etc.

Hey, maybe it is simple, after all. It's worth a try.

Thanks for those links - they were really interesting and inspirational (and with easy to remember rationales for this WOE when backed into a corner by a bitter naysayer)!

Re: Found this in Men's Health Magazine

The article reminds me of the fact that almost every diet being pushed nowadays is low carb in some way or another. I stumbled upon the Eat to Live book on a vegan forum. It's basically a low-carb diet for vegans. I lost more than 20 kilos doing that and still loosing. Low-Carb is the only way to loose.
