  • Anyone lost weight without exercise??

    I'm a very busy mother of 4 children (16 y/o, 7 y/o, 3 y/o, 2 y/o) Alot of running around to keep up, I'm always moving. I know I can't be the only busy mom on this board, has anyone else lost weight like this?

    Have fallen off the wagon along the way but I dust myself off & get right back on!!!

    I did my first time. On my second time around I started exercising, and let me tell ya, I noticed a dramatic difference in weight loss. Sooo since I screwed up again this will be my 3rd time on atkins, so I hope I can stick with it this time. I'd say any chance ya get since you can't go to a gym or w/e, just try to do something it worked a lot better for me.

      My first month, I did nothing at all and lost 14bs. The no exercise was not by choice however. I am a contractor that does very physical work. I had taken a month off when I first started and knew that when I went back to work that it was almost equivelant to going to the gym for 5 hours a day.

      However... I felt that if I was overweight even though I was doing strenuous work, then I probably needed to step-up the aerobics portion, which I did. So on top of the physical work I get , I joined the "Y" and now do aerobics with some weights.
      I had "stalled" for awhile and I believe the gym broke the "stall".

        Hey Journey...I'm not as busy a mom as you, as my kids are almost grown up, but I do know what it's like to be like that. Actually I miss those crazy days!
        Do you have a pedometer? I bet if you wear one, you'll be surprised by how many steps a day you take! If you have any time during your day, doing some work with free weights will help too!

          I lost weight no problem the first time I reached goal on Atkins with ZERO exercise. This time around I am really trying to do it though because I have three kids (7,6,2) and feel my body is flabbier and needs exercise in addition to diet. It's very hard for me to stick with it though.....there is always something that needs to be done around here and I find it too easy to use that as an excuse to not exercise for the day......

            Hi Journey.. I hear you on being the busy mom... I even homeschool my kids.. They are of course older.. 17 and 14.. But NOW I am making time for me.. and I wished I did way back when they were 2 and 3..

            Can your 16 year old watch the kids for 20-30 minutes while you take a walk...? Or do you have a Ymca near you...they have FREE childcare with there membership.. and there prices are cheap..

            I hate to exercise.. I make all sorts of excuses.. But I think it makes me feel better.. I just started exercising last week.. and right now my goal is 2 days a week for a month.. If I get a 3rd day in great..if not I am not going to cry over it.. So maybe start small...and then add to it...

            Remember we MOMs need some time for us...

              Exactly what Sandy said - we do need to make time for us. I find that I'm always doing stuff for everyone but me. This summer my goal is to make more time for ME, exercising (which really has me feeling great after I do it, as much as I dread starting it lol) shopping for ME, taking the time to read lots of good books, going swimming at night by myself......it's so hard to enjoy things when you are being pulled in a million directions. Exercise is easier now than when I was childless because in a way, it's an escape, no one is pestering me for things when I am exercising

                It is very hard to do. But you just need to find the time. Three ten minute blocks a day can be enough. You are getting exercise chasing the kids. But small things can add up. I know someone who used to go up stairs each stair twice, (up 2 down1, up2, etc.) When you take the kids to the store, park further away, the extra walking counts. I used to fit in 10 pushups every time I went up the stairs, what's that 15 seconds?

                Many small things add up. I personally like to go for a run before anyone wakes up. I hate getting up early, but the benefits are worth it.

                    You can buy or even rent some excersize dvd's and pop them in when the kids are sleeping or at least otherwise occupied. That worked great for me when I had no other time at home or away.

                      I exercised for the first year on this WOL and lost over 100 lbs. These last few months I started to really slack, gained about 15 and then re-lost it w/ out exercise. What a HUGE difference it made in my body. Before when I lost I slimmed down and was toned. These last few months the scale is down but man did I get squishy! I'm getting back on the ball w/ exercise now because I'd rather weigh more and have a tight toned body than weigh less w/ jiggly skin and no muscle!

                      Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

                        msnicksmom became a goalie and some of her exercise included running around after kids. she started getting the kids involved by doing leg lifts with her wee one. she of course was doing some other things but you can get those little ones involved. it's a plus for you and for the kids. teaching them some good habits!

                          I was a non believer in exercise... until I started. It works. Works wonders!
                          If you can get up a half hour earlier than usual and do a routine, you'd get it out of the way for the day and not have it hanging over you. That's what works for me, anyway.

                            IF you lose weight without exercising, you are also losing muscle mass! Muscle burns fat! You are taking a chance of losing up to 40% of your muscle mass when you diet without exercise.

                            Jim had a great answer. Break it down. Ten minutes three times a day! You can do it! Take the kids for a walk . Park a few spaces further from the stores, take the stairs whenever instead of the elevator. BABY STEPS! WATP has a 15 minute tape. Doing little things REALLY adds up.

                            Make your daily chores and exercise. Don't just vacuum, do lunges while you vacuum. Wiping down the shower? Do squats. Put music on, it is a proven fact when you clean with fast music you will move it (and the cleaning goes faster too!).

                            Oh and PLAY! Go outside and PLAY!

                              I went down from 210lb to 122lb without exercising on my first atkins routine when i was 21 years old. With age, the weight doesn't come off as easy though..

                              needless to say that was NOT a healthy weight for a 6 foot tall male.. i just got addicted to the weight coming off.. now i'm a nice 175lb and workout 3 times a week and play tennis 2 times a week.

                              exercise isn't always crucial but is always nice for a well balanced life of course.
