  • HELP ME!! I am about to CAVE

I am on my second time through induction. The last time I slipped up on the 4th day. Today is my fifth day on Atkins and I am about to cave. I can not stand not hving my favorie foods.

I have found some really good wings at walmart. Spicy Buffalo by Tyson. It has 6 carbs for the entire bag (24 wings - 1g carb for every 4 wings) and no sugar. That combined with salad tastes good so it has kep me going.

But I need TREATS!!!! I can not go another day without INDUCTION FRIENDLY Soda/Cookies/Cake/Waffles/peanut Butter/Jelly/GUM

Does anyone have any food item to suggest?

try lettuce wraps... I use the lettuce leaves sold at Trader joes in a bag... and stuff them with... hamburger patty with cheddar cheese, or chicken salad (made easily with canned chicken, sliced cerery, and mayonaise... yummy. you could also do egg salad or tuna salad... I love lettuce wraps... also made tacos the other night for my family but I didn't blow it! I had what? yes! Taco lettuce wraps with the mexican meat, cheese, tomatoe, and salsa and avocado!!! so delicious! lettuce wraps ROCK!
    HA!
you should go to sleep now. It's really late. I am waiting up for my daughter to get home.

First good for you for starting again. But think about how hard it was to restart again (trust me I know). Don't feed the beast! Drink some water, have some protein and fat. Those cravings will subside.

Second, you mentioned a whole bag of wings. Is that too much food? You are only supposed to eat until your hunger is satisfied, it is not a license to gorge. Once your hunger is satisfied you are supposed to stop eating, even if you have more food on your plate or more carbs in your allowance. I do hope you are not eating the whole bag. That is a lot of protein and a lot of calories. The good doctor didn't say 'Calories don't count', he said, 'Don't count calories.' It is possible to gain weight on Atkins if you overeat.

You can do this... Go and do something..go for a ride..go for a walk...Just get out of your house.. Not sure what time it is where you are..but sometimes I just go to bed..

When I am craving something sweet or creamy.. I take an ounce of Cream Cheese put it in a bowl and microwave it for almost 30 seconds..put one pack of splenda on it and stir it up and eat it.. It was my saving Grace in the beginning...

Sounds good. I'll look into that when I go to walmart today. By the way I took you and Sandy's advice and just went to bed! My siblings have cake/cookies lying around the house and I was so tempted to take a couple bites, but I resisted! .

Sorry I worded it incorrectly. I meant that the wings combined with salad is all I eat everyday. I didn't mean the entire bag though.

          Thanks everyone!

No problem, I'm glad it's not the whole bag.

Some people are very successful eating the same menu every day. I think Kent (one of our inspiring admins) had the same thing for breakfast for two years, if I remember correctly. If routine helps you great, but the plan offers a great variety if you want it. Plus wings and salad aren't loaded with nutrients unless you salad is a little more exotic than just lettuce.

You are so close to losing those cravings. Hang tough and be strong. At this point eat your favorite induction friendly foods until you feel satisfied. Dont worry too much about amounts, those will taper off when ketosis is in full swing. My trick was and still is if I feel I need to eat something I shouldnt I drink a huge glass of water. This usually does the trick. Then I can satisfy my my real hunger with legal foods.

Re: HELP ME!! I am about to CAVE

I think your way of wording things is setting you up for a harder time of it . Mind over matter, and you are letting your mind have it's way with you.

Saying "I cannot stand not having this", and "I need that". You CAN stand it, and you don't "need" anything except good, nourishing, induction friendly foods.
Concentrate on all the good things that you can have!

Pick induction frriendly foods you like, and eat lots of them. For a bit of a treat, you can try the Ice Breaker Sours, I have several a day after lunch when I need something sweet in my mouth.
I also blended up a chocolate drink a few times a week during induction, as a reward for a good workout.
A few ice cubes, tall glass of cold water, one pack of Splenda, and some Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder (sugar free, of course.)

The first few weeks are the hardest! Hang in there, YOU CAN DO THIS!
                Stats:
                Age: 41
                Sex: F
                Height: 5'2"
                Highest weight ever: 170+

Every time you feel yourself wavering think of how horrid you'll feel just two seconds after you cave. Trust me, the feeling you'll have when you hit goal is worth a million of those fleeting taste (carby) sensations. Focus firmly on the prize and you'll get there. It gets easier and easier as you go on.

Thanks bud. I didn't know that about Kent. I have gatherd a few choice foods and will probably be eating the same few for a loooong time to come. I take a multivitamin everyday. Do you think that'll help since I lack the good ol' nutrients in wings/salad (My salad is only lettuce with the occastional tomato slice. That's the way I've always eaten my salads. No dressing no other vegetables nada.).

Thanks Sally, Lamby, and Lucky, I needed the motivation. I think I have what it takes now to pretty much say NO

Apart from not giving you much nutrition, you might need to look at other 'salad veggies' as well as the 'other' ones once you reach OWL - as adding 5 net carbs of lettuce to see how your body copes with more carbs would mean eating an extra 13 cups of lettuce!!!
Much easier to up your carb count by 5 net carbs by eating 3/4 cup of red peppers or 1.75 cups of broccolli instead!

You can always cook the veggies on the salad list to make a great garnish for meats by sauteeing red peppers in butter, or use the 'other veggies' like brocolli raw with a creamy dip, or grate some cauliflower and steam it to make 'caulirice'.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

If you can just get through your induction I promise all those cravings will evaporate.
You'll be reminding yourself to eat at times even.

Combine that with how you'll feel when the pounds start melting away and you'll never look back!

                        You can do it!!

I NEVER liked anything for salad except iceberg lettuce. Now though, I don't buy iceberg at all, my salads are a mix of romaine and other types with more nutrients and I really LOVE them and I was never a salad eater to begin with. Try it and I bet as your taste buds acclimate to the fresh foods you will be eating you'll start to like it. I actually look forward to my daily salad which would have been laughable to me a mere 7 weeks ago

Keep going, soon you won't feel deprived. I didn't believe people when they said that either and today at the store while I grocery shopped, my eyes went right past all that junk and I didn't even want it!!
