After a nice clean Induction and losing nicely regularly, I had a reunion last night (reunion will last 4 more days) and we had it at a bar and old friends jammed etc. We danced a lot and it was hot and crowded and BF bought me wine spritzers which I drank to cool me down. I had about 6 in over 5 hours. All was fine to the end of the night.

Then as I walked out onto the street it hit me. I could not stand on the sidewalk, I had to sit down (in my clubbing clothes!). When I got home I brought up 6 times during the night and had very loose BM. I was sick as a dog!

I dragged myself out of bed this morning and was happy to discover I could drive the car, which I sure couldn't last night because at one point for a second or two I blacked out. The last time alcohol effected me like this was when I was 16 years old! Moral of the story, be careful, very careful with alcohol after low carbing.

For me it means tonight and throughout the rest of the reunion it is mineral water or plain water if they have no mineral water.

Thanks for relating your experience, Kawispice - it looks like a lesson learned

At least you didnt wake up in a strange bed surrounded by empty doritos packets!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

You are so funny, Elizellen... I can't make up my mind which one would have been worse; waking up in a strange bed or waking up beside empty doritos packets....

Even worse: waking up to a stranger in YOUR bed...with the bags of doritos and beer cans on your side!

Not only do you have to kick out the stranger...you've got to clean up the room.

YES, low-carbing makes your body do some nutty things when drinking...even nuttier than usual.

            Be careful.

However, a few gin and diet cokes are one of the wonders of the A way of life.

              Hehehe....

I think alcohol has a much stronger than usual effect on me on this diet. Perhaps because I eat less than my usual amount of food? Although one would think the fat consumed on the diet would line the stomach more.

A few gin and tonics actually can help the losing process.

A great way to relax...and won't gain you a lb.

When you got the muchies, pull out the gin or whiskey...just watch it because you are at a vulnerable point for alcohol.

                          It this true !!

I had a gin and tonic or three last weekend, and when I woke up, I'd lost 2kg (4lb). I knew that the gin had no carbs, which is why I choose it.

I had concern about the tonic water, that it might contain sugar.

I was expecting to put on weight due to the Alcohol in the gin.

However, I had a visit from the wooshie fairy, instead !!

In my business, I sometimes have to attend "after-work-business-meetings-that-are-in-a-bar".

I have a massive event this weekend, that I getting stressed about.
                          However, back to the point.

Please can you detail a little bit more about gin-and-tonic being Atkins friendly. I'm genuinely interested in your comment.

                            Re: Alcohol

Many people find they have a temporay drop of a pound or more after drinking alcohol which returns in a day or so. This is because alcohol is dehydrating.

Also using the ketone test strips after drinking alcohol to see if you are still in ketosis can be misleading as they register the acetones given off by your body using alcohol as being the same as ketones!!

I cant remember if it was mentioned earlier in this thread but your body will use alcohol as a preferred fuel and burn that before any other 'fuel' you have eaten, so although gin has no carbs it might postpone any weightloss you would otherwise have had.

Check your tonic water has no sugar too - non-diet tonic water may well have sugar in it.

                              Life

I speak for the working class people out there who need to work long hours, travel and perform to keep the dough coming in to pay for rent and the kids.

Gin and some diet ginger ale or coke will lead to great weight loss.
