  • Where did my Ketosis go?

    I've done 2 Keto-stix today that are barely saying "trace" when otherwise they are usually on the moderate/high side. My diet yesterday was really nothing out of my norm, so I'm racking my brain for a reason. The only things that were out of the ordinary were:

    I got a chicken sandwich and took the bun off, which a tiny bit of the bread stuck to my cheese. It was so small I don't think this would've had an effect on me.

    Last night I woke up with really bad intestinal cramps/gas/diarreah (sorry for TMI). I kept waking due to the cramping, so I took 4 Tums just so I could sleep. I'm feeling better today, but could the tums really throw me out of Ketosis? Or maybe just the little bug I had? I'm just confused and of course I want to remedy this situation. Thanks in advance for your input!

    Is TOM due? that could be it... alternatively you couldve just drank lots of water that day and diluted the ketones down, which is always a good thing...

    Make sure you dont test in a morning or after exercise.

      Shouldn't be TOM for at least another week and a half or so. I think I had 9 cups of water, so about average. And didn't test in the morning or after exercise. I probably shouldn't worry about it too much unless it's still not showing ketosis in a few days. Just wait it out...

        I wouldn't be concerned.....I've noticed my strips show negative once in a while but checked later in the day or the next day and they read positive again.

          that sounds about right!! I have the same thing.

          I find the best time to test is about 2 hrs after dinner. If you are not cheating then you also shouldn't have to bother with them as you will be in 'fat burning mode'

            Recheck your menu and think if there were any non-Atkins friendly foods. Was the cheese on your chicken sandwich "real". Usually fast food joints used processed cheese and dont use Atkin's friendly cheese such as cheddar.

            I wouldn't worry too much.........
