  • Safflower Mayo Question???

    Hi all,
I have a question I make curry chicken salad a couple times a week. It's one of my fovorite things to eat...lol. I ust to by it from the Health food store, but it had rasins and things in it so I started making it on my own. I always liked the mayo they used so today I found out it was Safflower Mayonnaise. So I bought 2 jars And of course made some as soon as I got home...Mmmm, so good Anyways, I was putting it in my fitday, and was going through the ingredients (I have NO IDEA WHY I didn't look before I bought it), and I see one of the last ingredients is HONEY...Honey!!! It has zero carbs??? So I'm confused and now unsure if I should be eating it. I like it, but I like chocolate cake too *wink* Any advise would be helpful. Should I get rid of it??? Should I wait and see if it effects me, as in a stall or something???

I thought Safflower Mayo was good for you

      Re: Safflower Mayo Question???

The trouble with USA labels is that they list the nutrition info 'per serving' not per 100 grams/mls like most other countries. So if you use more than that one 'serving' you might be ingesting more carbs than you know. Manufacturers are allowed to call it zero carbs if it is less than 0.5 carbs - so I tend to assume each serving has half of one carb, and so if one serving was one teaspoon and I had one tablespoon I would think of that as being 1.5 carbs.

As to the ingredients including honey or any other added sugar, strictly speaking it isnt allowed on induction as Dr Atkins said we should choose dressings with no added sugar. However many people DO allow themselves to use dressings that list sugar right at the end of the ingredients list if they cant find one of those with no added sugar.

Any way of making it for yourself from scratch so you can control what you are eating better? There are many recipes around for DIY mayo.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
